더불어민주당 당대표 선거에 출마한 김민석 전 국무총리가 21일 “신천지가 전당대회에 개입하고 있다”며 “조만간 증거를 공개하겠다”고 했다. 신천지 세력이 구체적으로 누구를 지원하고 있는지는 언급하지 않았지만 친여 유튜버들은 ‘정청래 전 대표의 연루설’을 퍼뜨리고 있다. 정청래 전 대표는 “저하고 전혀 관련 없는 문제다. 가짜 뉴스 유포는 무관용 원칙으로 법적 조치하겠다”며 강력 반발했다.

당대표 선거에 출마한 친명계 송영길 의원이 최근 정청래 전 대표를 직격하며 “여론조사를 보면 국민의힘에서 가장 지지도가 높은 사람이 정청래”라고 한 것도 이런 흐름과 무관치 않다. 송영길 의원은 지난 20일 한 유튜브에 나와 “이상한 사람들이 당에 들어와 있는 게 아닌가 싶다. 얼마든지 국민의힘 지지자들이 들어와 ‘정청래를 지지하는 게 국민의힘 지지 유지에 도움이 된다’고 판단해서 지지할 수 있다”고 했다. 송영길 의원은 21일에는 홍준표 전 대구시장과 만난 뒤 “지난 2021년 국민의힘 대선 경선에서 신천지 개입이 없었다면 윤석열이 아닌 홍준표 후보가 대선 후보가 됐을 텐데 하는 아쉬움을 나누었다”고 했다.

이에 대해 정청래 전 대표 측 관계자는 “김민석 전 총리와 송영길 의원이 합작으로 신천지를 띄워 정청래 전 대표를 이낙연식 사쿠라(배신자), 국민의힘 지원을 받는 자로 몰고 가고 싶은 모양”이라며 “당원만 믿고 가는 정청래 전 대표는 혈혈단신이라서 이런 공격은 먹히지 않을 것”이라고 했다.
