A Big Cucumber
Baik (Ben) Sung

A big, cute cucumber in a basket, I am ready to cut
Bulky carrots, dills, eggplants are best for our health,
Cut them carefully to be vegetables for our evening dinner.
Dexterous though not, my skills are only to help my wife
Easily I spread them on a hot pan sizzling on the red coiled range.
For seasonings I use a spoonful, hot pepper powder and greenish olive oil
Garlic crushed mixed with salt, the black pepper I forget not
Hot Red Texan sauce I pour into them
In my imagination I invent a surprising flavor
Juicy is the marinated meat red roasting in the red glowing oven
Kitchen air is filled with arousing aroma of beefsteak
Ladies sit around the table covered with cherry laces
Men’s eyes are mingled with the glittering glasses of red wine
Noses in each breath are already narrowed with rising fragrance.
O splendid before them are plates and dishes of scarlet floral patterns
Properly set is everything for the perfect party
Quarrels are not allowed: that is table etiquette everyone is used to
Round table is prepared to satisfy the gloating hearts around
Silverware shines on the heart napkins under the chandelier
Thanksgiving is loudly chorused sensing enjoyment in every voice.
Unexpected is an eager lady sampling the vegetable I made
Voicing with her scream her face turns flushed with frowning
Wry face with the watery eyes, my face turns to reddened
Xyster, I feel, pierces through me, as though; I confess my fault before them all
Yet I hear a burst of laughter to redeem my guilt ruddy.
Zany I am, making everyone happy in the zoo.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Day!
