The Gospel According to Matthew Chapter 24
The Bible Text from https://www.bible.com/bible/111/MAT.24.NIV
The Most Prime Teachings of Jesus about the Last Days
The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times
Jesus left the temple and was walking away (to the East, Mt. Olive) when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings (Temple).
“Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” (Total destruction of the Temple in AD 70 by Roman soldiers.)
As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” (They wanted to know about the Last Days.)
Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. (There will be many false claims and informations by pagans and false teachers/prophets.)
For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. (The false claiming about Jesus will be worked as the test the truthfulness of their faith. True Christians will not follow the false claims because of their innocent faith in Christ.)
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. (There will be a global conflicts and wars but worst yet to come.)
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. (In spite of their claiming modern civility, there will be conflicts and wars between nations and peoples in many places. Humanism without God can turn to barbarism anytime. And it will be so.)
All these are the beginning of birth pains. (Worst yet to come!)
“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. (There will be religious conflicts and as a result, Believers will be persecuted due to their denial of the worldly barbarianism.)
At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. (Many who are not committed to solely Jesus will deny their faith in Christ and turn to the world. This will be the threshing yard cleansing effect; grain to the barn, chaff to the fire. Mt. 3:11)
Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, (Human who left the true love of God will be ended up destroying the Order of Life (Love) by hatred. 2Tim. 3:1-13) 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. (We have to get through this time of test. It is not the final wrath which is damnation. Rev. 2:7, 22:1~2, 14, 19.)
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (The chance to accept the Gospel will be given to all souls in spaces and times.)
“So when you see standing in the holy place (The Temple) ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ (The idol against of God- spoken of by the prophet Daniel- (Dan. 9:27, 11:31, 12:11) let the reader understand- 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. (This is the moment to flee away from the idol- anti-Christ. Daily routines will be hindered.)
Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house.
Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. (It will be the survival game in faith. Survival matters.)
How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! (Reality of the last days; the weaker suffer more.)
Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. (Prepare with prayer, not to avoid but to get through.)
For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now- and never to be equaled again. (It will be the most difficult time for those believers.)
“If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. (But believers will get through this time of test with faith in Christ who will give the way and strength. 1Co. 10:13, Phil. 4:13. Jesus won the war at the cross so we fight the winning battle.)
At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. (Many false prophets and anti-christs will come up in the dreadful time but do not believe or follow them.)
For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. (They will be deceitful with their magics of science and philosophy even for those believers. God, however, never lose His own sheep. Ezek. 34:11-16.)
See, I have told you ahead of time. (Enough information is given.)
“So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.
For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. (There will be no rumor, doubt, confusion or guess on the Second Coming of Jesus. We just maintain our daily life in Christ.)
Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. (But the sign will be obvious.)
The Second Coming of Jesus
“Immediately after the distress of those days(- earthly happenings first.)
“ ‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ (Isa. 13:10. 34:4, heavenly bodies will be shaken.)
“Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man (Jesus) in heaven. (The Second Coming of Jesus from the above.) And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven (Some happily welcoming- Rev. 22:20, Some trembling in fear- Rev. 6:16), with power and great glory . (The FULL Manifestation of His Glory and Power, Jn. 1:14, Dan. 7:13-14)
And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. (The Rapture; Bringing the elect to above on the trumpet call.)
“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. (Even nature works according to God's design.)
Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. (We don't know the exact time but will know it's near.)
Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (The Last prophecy/promise of Jesus for human race in this world. It will be done.)
The Day and Hour Unknown
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (The exact time should not be our concern but of God. Do not try or even pretend to know.)
As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. (Noah knew the great flood is coming but was not concerned about when but just prepared the Ark.)
Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.
Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. (They just live daily lives faithfully regardless of the time which belongs to God.)
But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.
So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. (The current time in Christ is the only moment we are living with faith and loyalty.)
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time?
It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.
Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. (The faithful servant will be commissioned to the Kingdom business.)
But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.
The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of.
He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (The unfaithful, however, will be abandoned to where there is no righteousness of God.)
The Rapture is the universal phenomenon while the death is personal in the same significance. We may or may not see the historic Rapture but will face the same ending story in individual death.)
