[틈틈이 영어공부] What kept you?

- 영한 : 무엇 때문에 늦었니?, 왜 이렇게 늦었어?

- 설명 : 무엇이 너를 그렇게 지속했어?라는 직역지만, 의역적으로 "왜 늦었는지?"에 대한 의미입니다.

- 유사활용 : ⓐI kept you  ⓑSorry to keep you = "늦어서 미안해"

※늦어서 미안하다는 표현 2가지

- 예문 : 

You’re an hour late—what kept you? 
너 1시간 늦었어. 왜 지체된(늦은) 거니?

브라이언: 차에 개스가 떨어져서. 주유소에 들려 좀 넣고 오느라고 그랬어.

Doug: You were supposed to be here at 1:00 and it's 1:20.
더그: 1시에는 여기 왔어야지. 지금 1시 20분이야.

Brian: I'm sorry. Let's get your luggage in the car.
브라이언: 미안해. 차에 짐 싣자.

Doug: Take the freeway. It's faster.
더그: 프리웨이로 가자. 그게 빨라.

Brian: I know a faster way to get to the airport.
브라이언: 공항에 빨리 가는 길 알아.

Doug: I don't care which way you go. I don't want to miss my plane.
더그: 무슨 길로 가던 상관없어. 비행기만 안 놓치면 돼.

Brian: I'll get you there in no time.
브라이언: 금방 데려다 줄게.


[기억할만한 표현]
▶ run out of (something): (무엇이) 떨어지다.
"I ran out of rice last night and I had to buy more." 
(지난 밤에 쌀이 떨어지는 바람에 어쩔 수 없이 쌀을 더 샀어.)

▶ in no time: 곧바로. 잽싸게.
"He was late for school, so he finished his breakfast in no time." 
(그는 등교 시간에 늦어서 급하게 아침을 먹었어.)
