“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who are abusive to you. Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic from him either. Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.”
Who can do this? Jesus had done it. Jesus loved us when we were His enemies, treated us well when we hated Him, blessed us when we cursed Him, pleaded for us when we insulted Him, turned the other cheek when we struck Him, gave us everything He had when we took something from Him, and gave us everything we asked for without asking for it back when we took what was His. This is what Jesus did for us.
Let us not speak hateful words. Let us not get angry, sulk, complain, gossip, or curse. Let us be careful with our words, manage our facial expressions well, and practice praying with blessings instead of curses. The older we get and the longer we have been attending church, the more we should practice this.
That being said, “Treat people the same way you want them to treat you.”
