In today's text, Jesus asks the people who went out to see John in the wilderness what they went out to see. This question also applies to us: what do we come to church to see? We believe in Jesus now, and He says that we are greater than John. Why does He say that we are great? Could His statement lead us to become complacent or prideful? Shouldn't we consider how to live as people of great purpose in God's eyes?
Those who did not receive John's baptism rejected God's will. Similarly, not receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire that Jesus offers is also rejecting God's will. To refuse the baptism of the Holy Spirit that Jesus offers implies a lack of willingness to obey God's will.
Now is the time for God's servants to be sealed. We must live with Jesus' name inscribed on our foreheads, which signifies being filled with the Holy Spirit and receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. If Jesus points out those who did not receive John's baptism, how will He regard those who do not receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit? We must all receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
