Mohd Noh Alam Shah is a Singaporean footballer who plays as a forward for Tampines Rovers FC in Singapore's S.League and is widely regarded as one of the best forwards in South East Asia. He was part of the Singapore team which won the Tiger Cup regional soccer championship in 2005. His good form was impressive enough to earn trials at Notts County F.C. and Skonto Riga but they failed to materalise due to work permit issues and language problems respectively.
In the 2007 ASEAN Football Championship group stage match against Laos, he scored an impressive 7 goals in Singapore's 11-0 win. By doing so, he was the first ever Singaporean National player to pull off such a feat in an 'A' international game. He was awarded the Most Valuable Player award for his impressive displays in the tournament, which Singapore won.
Bullish and enthusiastic, Alam Shah is perhaps best remembered for his dramatic late equaliser against Kuwait in a World Cup qualifier in 2001 and also for his goal in the famous 2-0 victory over Iraq in the Asian Cup qualifiers in 2006.
Alam Shah's playing style is characterised by physical strength, pace, ability in the air, and opportunistic finishing. With his swashbuckling style and never-say-die commitment upfront, he is a firm favourite with the fans despite a volatile temper that has gotten the better of him numerous times in the past. Alam Shah attributes his temper to an unhappy childhood, revealing to the New Paper in 2006 that he was involved in gangs as a youth. His nickname of "Ah Long", a Hokkien term for a loanshark, comes from his period as a youth, where he worked as a runner for a Chinese loanshark.
The Tampines Rovers striker has worked hard to keep his temper in check though, and has put a past full of foibles behind him as well, winning an S.League title with the Stags in 2004 and 2005.
With the seconds ticking away in a match against Liaoning Guangyuan, Noh Alam Shah scored his 100th for Tampines Rovers FC in dramatic fashion, with a late goal. By doing so, he was the first ever player to score 100 goals for Tampines Rovers. Noh Alam is the first Stags player to notched a century of S-league goals for the club itself and the tally came from 88 goals in the league and 12 goals in the domestic cup competition.
Currently, he is plying his trade for Singapore Cup champions, Tampines Rovers after stints with Sembawang Rangers and SAFFC.
Noh Alam Shah is currently under sponsorship with German sports-brand, Adidas after previously being the face of Nike for South-East Asia.
He is married and is a father of 2 children.
