Talk about how ages calculated in Korea.

In most countries, people think that someone begins aging the moment that they are born. However, in Korea, a baby is considered to be 1 year old when they enter the world. You could say that the time spent in the mother’s belly is included in someone’s age. That’s why Koreans usually add a year to the time that they have actually lived when they calculate their age. (그렇기 때문에 한국 사람들은 일반적으로 본인의 실제 살아온 나이에 한 살을 더해 나이를 계산한다.) They sometimes clarify the difference by saying whether it’s their Korean age, or ordinary age. Perhaps owing to this calculation method, people in Korea sometimes mention the year of their birth to indicate their age. Many foreigners are quite amused by this unique way of calculating age of Korea.

You can say that~ :~라고 말 할 수 있다.

Ordinary age : 만 나이 (한국 외에서 만 나이 개념 자체가 없어서 그냥 age로 쓰면 됩니다.)
