Jesus called the apostles and gave them authority to heal the sick and cast out demons. Through the disciples, Jesus’ authority was revealed. Now, the Holy Spirit has been given to us, granting us the power and authority of the Spirit and sending us out. Let us not forget that we have been given even greater power and authority than the 12 disciples in today’s passage. This is why receiving the Holy Spirit is essential.
In today’s passage, Jesus tells the disciples to give the crowd something to eat. Here, the disciples don’t really do anything significant. However, after Jesus ascended to heaven, it was the disciples who were to feed the crowds that followed Jesus.
Let us always be grateful to Jesus who provides for us throughout our lives, and let us pray for the ability, authority, and resources to feed others just as Jesus did.
