더불어민주당 8·17 전당대회 최고위원 선거에서도 당선권(5위)에 들기 위한 싸움이 당대표 선거만큼 치열하게 벌어지고 있다. 친청계 2명과 친명계 2명이 1~4위를 양분한 가운데, 5위를 누가 차지하느냐에 따라 최고위원 선거 승부가 결정되는 그림이다. 현재 누적 득표율 5위는 친명계 김용 후보지만, 6위인 친청계 이성윤 후보에게 불과 0.76%포인트 차로 쫓기고 있다.

민주당은 오는 15일 전남광주·전북 순회 경선, 16일 경기·서울 순회 경선을 치른 뒤 17일 대전에서 전당대회를 열어 당대표·최고위원 당선자를 결정한다. 여권 관계자는 “이성윤 후보는 지역구(전북 전주)가 있는 전북, 김용 후보는 정치적 기반(경기 성남)이 속한 경기 지역 경선에서 선전을 노릴 것”이라고 했다. 또 전당대회 당일에는 권리당원 투표 70%에 일반 국민 여론조사 30%를 합산해 순위를 가리는데, 1%포인트 안팎의 접전이 벌어지면서 국민 여론조사도 당락에 적잖은 영향을 미칠 것이란 전망도 나온다.

이성윤 후보는 정청래 당대표 선거 후보의 전북 일정에 동행했다. 정 후보는 전주에서 연 당원 토크콘서트에서 “최민희 후보는 (당선) 될 것 같고, 이성윤 후보가 간당간당하다”며 “이 후보를 먼저 찍어주길 바란다”고 했다. 반면 박선원 후보는 MBC라디오에서 이 후보가 호남 민심을 ‘주석야청’(낮에는 김민석, 밤에는 정청래)이라고 표현한 것을 두고 “당원 모욕”이라며 “동지들을 마치 표리부동한 것처럼 표현하는 건 부적절하다”고 했다.

The race for the top five positions in the Democratic Party of Korea’s August 17 National Convention Supreme Council election is as fierce as the party leadership race.
