민주당은 이날 소속 국회의원 전원 명의로 ‘5·18 왜곡·폄훼 이진숙 국회의원 제명 촉구 결의안’을 국회사무처에 제출했다. 결의안을 직접 제출한 박균택 원내부대표와 이주희 원내대변인은 기자들과 만나 “이 의원은 당장 국회의원직에서 물러나야 한다”고 했다.

이 원내대변인은 “이 의원은 5·18 정신을 폄훼하는 인사들을 모아 역사적으로 확정된 사실조차 부정하는 행위를 서슴지 않았다”면서 “국회의원으로서 자격이 없다”고 말했다. 박 의원도 “소속 정당에서도 반대했는데도 토론회를 강행하는 모습을 보면 합리적 방법으로는 개조가 불가능한 함량 미달 정치인”이라면서 “제명을 촉구할 수밖에 없다”고 했다.

A resolution to expel a lawmaker is reviewed by the National Assembly Ethics Special Committee and the Ethics Review Advisory Committee before being presented to the plenary session.
