1. 오늘의 묵상칼럼 : 낮은 자리에서 드러나는 우리의 믿음

“아비들아 너희 자녀를 노엽게 하지 말지니 낙심할까 함이라.”
— 골로새서 3장 21절

  우리는 흔히 높은 자리에 있을 때 하나님의 영광이 더욱 선명하게 드러난다고 생각합니다. 일이 잘되고, 자녀가 잘되고, 삶이 평안할 때 하나님을 찬양하기가 쉽습니다. 그러나 오스왈드 챔버스는 오히려 우리가 낮은 자리에 있을 때 우리의 믿음과 충성이 더욱 분명하게 드러난다고 말합니다.

“정상에서는 하나님의 영광을 보지만, 오히려 낮은 이 세상에서 우리는 하나님을 향한 우리의 가치를 진정으로 드러낼 수 있고 우리의 충성을 증거할 수 있습니다.”

  마가복음 9장 22절에서 한 아버지는 귀신 들린 아들을 데리고 예수님께 나아와 간절히 도움을 구합니다. 그는 자신의 힘으로 아무것도 할 수 없는 낮은 자리까지 내려와 있었습니다. 그러나 바로 그 자리에서 그는 예수님을 향하여 자신의 믿음을 드러냅니다.

  우리의 삶에도 이런 낮은 자리가 있습니다. 자녀를 위해 아무리 애써도 뜻대로 되지 않을 때가 있고, 가족의 문제 앞에서 부모로서 자신의 한계를 절감할 때도 있습니다. 그때 우리는 쉽게 조급해지고, 화를 내며, 자녀를 몰아붙일 수 있습니다. 그러나 성경은 자녀를 노엽게 하여 낙심하게 하지 말라고 말씀합니다.

  낮은 자리에서 필요한 것은 더 큰 목소리가 아니라 더 깊은 믿음입니다. 자녀가 기대만큼 따라오지 않을 때에도 하나님을 신뢰하고, 내 뜻대로 되지 않는 상황에서도 사랑을 포기하지 않는 것이 하나님을 향한 우리의 충성을 보여주는 모습입니다.

  높은 곳에서 하나님을 찬양하는 것은 어렵지 않을 수 있습니다. 그러나 아무것도 해결되지 않은 것처럼 보이는 낮은 자리에서 “주님, 제가 할 수 있는 것은 없지만 주님은 하실 수 있습니다”라고 고백하는 것이 믿음입니다.

  오늘도 우리의 가정과 삶에 낮은 자리가 있다면 그것을 실패의 자리로만 바라보지 마십시오. 그곳이 오히려 우리의 믿음과 사랑과 충성이 하나님 앞에 드러나는 자리가 될 수 있습니다.

나는 어려운 상황에서 내 힘으로 문제를 해결하려 하기보다, 하나님을 신뢰하며 사랑과 믿음으로 반응하고 있는가?

2. 오늘의 묵상칼럼(영어버전) : Faith Revealed in the Low Places

“Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.”
— Colossians 3:21 (NIV)

  We often think that God’s glory is seen most clearly when we are in high places—when everything is going well, our children are doing well, and life is peaceful. It is easy to praise God when everything is going according to our expectations. But Oswald Chambers reminds us that our faithfulness to God can be revealed even more clearly when we find ourselves in the low places.

“We see God’s glory on the mountaintop, but it is often in the low places of this world that we truly reveal our worth to God and prove our loyalty to Him.”

  In Mark 9:22, a father brings his suffering son to Jesus and desperately asks Him for help. He had reached a place where he could do nothing by his own strength. Yet it was precisely there, in that low place, that his faith was revealed as he turned to Jesus.

  We also experience such low places in our lives. Sometimes we do everything we can for our children, yet things do not turn out as we hoped. At times, we become painfully aware of our limitations as parents. In such moments, we can easily become impatient, angry, or demanding. Yet Scripture tells us not to provoke our children, lest they become discouraged.

  What we need in the low places is not a louder voice, but a deeper faith. When our children do not respond as we expect, trusting God and continuing to love them can become a powerful testimony of our faithfulness to Him.

  It may not be difficult to praise God on the mountaintop. But when nothing seems to be changing, being able to say, “Lord, I cannot do this on my own, but You can,” is an expression‎ of genuine faith.

  If you find yourself in a low place today, do not see it only as a place of failure. It may become the very place where your faith, love, and faithfulness are revealed before God.

Reflection for Today:
When I face difficult circumstances, am I trying to solve everything in my own strength, or am I trusting God and responding with faith and love?
