김민석 후보가 17일 더불어민주당 신임 당대표로 선출됐다. 김 신임 대표는 이날 대전 유성구 대전컨벤션센터에서 열린 민주당 8·17 정기전국당원대회에서 선호투표 끝에 54.08%를 득표해 45.92%를 득표한 정청래 후보를 제치고 당대표에 올랐다.

이날 발표된 국민 여론조사 및 대의원 투표 결과를 기존 권리당원 투표와 합산해 선호투표제를 적용한 결과, 김 후보는 정 후보를 합계 8.16%p 차로 제쳤다. 선호투표제는 1차 투표에서 과반 득표자가 나오지 않자, 3위인 송영길 후보를 1순위로 투표한 2순위 표를 김민석·정청래 후보에게 합산해 최종 당선인을 가리는 방식이다.

김 신임 대표는 17일 민주당 전당대회에서 당대표로 선출된 직후 폭우 피해가 발생한 경남 거제시 옥포동 삼도로얄맨션 아파트로 출발했다고 박성준 신임 수석대변인이 밝혔다. 김 대표는 현장에서 폭우 피해 상황을 점검하고, 수재민들의 임시 주거 시설인 오포사회복지관을 들러 주민들을 만날 예정이다.
