나는 떡을 엄청 좋아한다.
없어서 못먹을 정도이다.
떡은 우리나라의 다양한 행사마다 있는 국민 간식인
셈이다.
- I have a soft spot for tteok,or rice cakes.
  I can't get enough of it.
  It's a national snack that is ever-present
  at varous Korean events.

떡은 우리나라의 고유의 간식으로, 매우 다양한

종류가 있다.
떡의 종류는 재료에 따라, 만드는 계절에 따라,

어떤 행사에 사용되지는에 따라 다 다르다.
- There is a wide variety of types of tteok.
  Its type depends on its ingredients,

  the seanon  when it's made, and what type

  of event  it is used for.

시루떡은 볶은 팥과 찹쌀을 이용하여 만든다.
예로부터 시루떡은 귀신을 물리치고 액운을 막아

그래서 지금도 이사할 때나 개업을 할 때 많이

사용된다.

  and sticky rice are used.
  Back in the old days, it was believed to

  drive out evil spirits and prevent something bad

  from happening.
  That's the reason it's still widely used when people

만드는 데도 최고의 재료이다.

Talk about sticky rice cakes.

I have a soft spot for tteck, or rice cakes.

It's a snack that's ever-present at various

Korea events.

Tteok is a national snack of Korea, and there is

​a wide variety of types.

A tteok's type depends on its ingredients, 

the season in which it's made, and the type 

of event it is used for.

Sirutteok is made using roasted red bean 

and stick rice.

Back in the old days, it was thought to chase 

away ghosts and prevent bad luck.

That's why even now, it is widely used 

when people move of start a business.

Garaetteok is made to be used when cooking 

rice cake soup on New Year's Day.

But even apart from rice cake soup. garaetteok 

is just the ticket when you have a craving for 

a light snack.

You can store it in the freezer.

Then you can take it out, toast it, and dip it 

in grain syrup.

It's also the perfect ingredient to make 

tteokbokki  as a children's snack or as bar bites.
