Twins Discovered that are Not Identical Nor Fraternal

Up till now, twins were placed in 2 categories: identical and fraternal but a new report shows a need for a third category, semi-identical. Researchers discovered twins who have identical genes from the mother but only share half of their father's genes. The scientists deduced that two sperm cells fertilized one egg and then split into two embryos.
"Their similarity is somewhere between identical and fraternal twins," said geneticist Vivienne Souter, of the Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz. "It makes me wonder whether the current classification of twins is an oversimplification."
Doctors identified the semi-identical twins because one child was born a "true hermaphrodite" with both ovarian and testicular tissue. The other twin is anatomically male.

Public servant eval‎uation program aims to weed out slackers

Guidelines are being set in the central Korean government for a program intended to maximize productivity and remove unqualified workers from high-level official positions. Although a similar program was previously in place, there was little change as the rating system was absolute, resulting in no workers receiving failing scores. The new system implements quotas for scores, as well as new conditions for demotions and dismissals.
Unionized workers criticize the plan for the possibility of it being corrupted by eval‎uators with personal agendas. However, a recent survey indicated that 64% of the nation supports the program.
