Today's passage is a reminder that the words Jesus spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees also apply to us. He says "Woe to you" to us as well. Their problems are our problems.
Lawyers, being teachers of the law, are respected by people. However, they teach the law without practicing it themselves, and they demand others to follow it. When others fail to do so, they criticize them. They also revere the prophecies of the dead prophets and wait for the kingdom of God, yet act like their ancestors who killed the prophets.
As church workers, we must be cautious. If we become relaxed in our church life, thinking we are better than others, pointing out others' flaws, and gossiping behind their backs, we become like the Pharisees and lawyers.
Even if it seems like believers die in vain or helplessly, God will repay everything. In the end times, we must be prepared to be taken captive when it's time, and to die when it's time.
