1. 지나온 삶, 그리고 '돈'에 대한 성찰
우리는 긴 세월을 살아오면서 돈이 무엇인지 누구보다 잘 아실 겁니다. 돈 때문에 웃고, 울고, 때로는 좌절했던 수많은 순간들이 있으셨겠지요. 많은 분들이 자녀들을 위해, 가정을 위해 평생을 땀 흘려 돈을 모아오셨을 것입니다.
We, having lived long lives, understand money better than anyone. You've had countless moments where money brought joy, tears, and at times, frustration. Many of you have toiled your entire lives, accumulating wealth for your children and families.

성경은 이렇게 말씀합니다.
The Bible states:
> "부하려 하는 자들은 유혹과 올무와 여러 가지 어리석고 해로운 정욕에 떨어져 사람을 파멸과 멸망에 빠지게 하느니라 돈을 사랑함이 일만 악의 뿌리가 되나니 이것을 탐내는 자들은 미혹을 받아 믿음에서 떠나 많은 근심으로써 자기를 찔렀도다" (디모데전서 6:9-10)

이 말씀은 과거를 돌아보며 돈에 대한 우리의 태도를 성찰하게 합니다. 칼뱅은 '돈을 사랑함'이 우상 숭배와 다름없다고 보았습니다. 혹시 우리가 돈을 자녀나 노후의 안전을 위한 우상으로 삼지는 않았는지요? 혹은 돈이 주는 권력이나 안락함에 너무 의지하지는 않았는지요?
This passage prompts us to reflect on our past attitudes toward money. Calvin viewed 'the love of money' as no different from idolatry. Perhaps we've unwittingly made money an idol for our children or for our retirement security? Or have we relied too heavily on the power or comfort that money provides?

We must realize that true peace comes not from the numbers in a bank account, but from complete trust in God. Now is the time to lay down the burdens of the past and embrace the wisdom of placing our hope in eternal values, not material possessions.

2. '돈', 하나님의 선물 그리고 축복의 통로
돈에 대한 성경의 경고는 돈 자체를 악하다고 말하는 것이 아닙니다. 오히려 성경은 돈이 하나님의 축복이 될 수 있으며, 선한 목적을 위해 사용될 때 매우 유용하다는 것을 보여줍니다. 돈은 우리의 필요를 채워주고, 가족을 돌보며, 어려운 이웃을 돕고, 하나님의 일을 확장하는 데 귀한 도구가 될 수 있습니다.
The Bible's warning about money isn't saying that money itself is evil. On the contrary, the Bible shows that money can be a blessing from God and is very useful when used for good purposes. Money can be a valuable tool for meeting our needs, caring for our families, helping those in need, and expanding God's work.

As we enter the latter part of life, we no longer need to rush headlong. Now is the time to take it easy and be deeply grateful for what we have already received.

Contentment isn't merely 'being satisfied with what you have.' As New Zealand is called 'Aotearoa,' isn't the peace and warmth of community we enjoy in this beautiful land, and the love of our children and grandchildren, true abundance?

When we remember that we came into the world with nothing and will return with nothing, we can break free from attachment to what we currently possess and enjoy true freedom. A contented heart allows us to lay down anxiety and worry, and experience genuine peace in the Lord.
