경찰청은 제주 실종사건 허위 종결 의혹과 관련해 제주서부경찰서 지휘 라인 4명을 전원 대기발령 조처했다고 25일 밝혔다. 사건이 처음 접수됐을 당시 제주서부경찰서장과 현 서장, 형사과장, 실종팀장 등이다.

경찰청은 이들을 상대로 사건 처리와 관련한 지휘·감독 책임과 사실관계 등을 확인하기 위해 감찰 조사를 진행 중이다.

제주서부경찰서 소속 부모(30대) 경장은 지난 5월 장미란(37)씨 실종 신고를 연락이 닿은 것처럼 허위로 보고하고 종결한 혐의를 받는다. A 경장은 지난달 실종 신고된 60대 남성 사건도 허위 종결한 혐의를 받고 있다.

경찰은 A 경장이 담당해 처리·종결한 실종 신고 298건에 대해 전수 조사하고 있다.
