There are three pillars for the Jews, which support Jewish society. These are the Sabbath, the laws of purity, and circumcision, as mentioned in today's passage. These are not for the sake of themselves, but for the sake of people. However, the Jews do not understand this because they do not know God. Therefore, they believe that keeping these practices well is the same as believing in God properly.
Jesus called them hypocrites. They say one must keep the Sabbath and believe in God properly, but Jesus called this hypocrisy. It is fitting to rescue a daughter of Abraham from Satan. But if one says keeping the Sabbath is more important, that is the thought of someone who does not know God.
Let’s examine the Sabbath controversies found in chapters 4, 6, 13, and 14. Through these, we can see how Jesus prioritized people. Circumcision and purity laws, like the Sabbath, exist for our benefit. Similarly, the church exists for us. It was established to bring us salvation, founded by Jesus through His blood. If we truly serve God, our task is to save those bound by Satan, both in body and soul. That is the work we are called to do.
Let us not forget that the work of the church is about winning people. The core mission is to lead others to salvation, helping those bound by sin and Satan to find freedom and restoration in Christ. Our focus should be on reaching people with the gospel, guiding them to experience both physical and spiritual liberation.
