Today's passage is about a master who invited people to a big dinner, but they made various excuses and didn’t come. Then the master told his servant, “Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor, crippled, blind, and lame.” Even after they all came, there were still empty seats. The master then said to the servant, “Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.”
If the big dinner represents the kingdom of God and the master is God, what could God possibly lack? Would it matter to God if we didn’t enter His big dinner or His kingdom? But God doesn’t think that way. If there are empty seats in heaven, He seeks to fill them. Why? Because He loves us.
Therefore, the church must fill its seats. Didn’t Jesus command us to fill them? This church, too, must fill its seats. If the people we try to bring are too busy and cannot come, bring those who are not busy. Bring those without jobs, the sick, the hungry, and those struggling in life. Even if people disregard them, God does not.
