Clear the track Brammo, Zero, KTM and BRD, Husqvarna just decided to enter the electric motorcycle market with its Husqvarna Concept E-go. An urban commuter aimed squarely – in an angular fashion – at first-time riders. The E-go concept draws on the Swedish brand’s dirt and supermoto background to bring a stylishly aggressive electric motorcycle package. Weighing in at just 80kg (176 lbs) the Husqvarna Concept E-borders on beautifully anorexic.
Husqvarna describes it’s concept as: Extreme, light, streamlined. This is Husqvarna’s approach to today’selectric motorcycling world. Urban commuting for first-time bikers who can have all the attractive features that a Husqvarna machine boasts: an explosive mix of road, off-road and supermotard experiences. Stripped Down/Bare Bones styling definately takes center stage on this concept, with the E-go’s front end being the star attraction. Husqvarna dubs the eye-catching component “a single sided double leg fork.” At only 80 kg it’s pure exhilaration, the innovative design is inspired and derived from the latest Husqvarna models, with features such as the striking side panels that makes this bike clearly a member of the Husqvarna family.
Husqvarna Motorcycles - subsidiary of BMW - manufacturer of ubercool motocross, enduro and supermoto motorcycles. The company began producing motorcycles in 1903 at Huskvarna, Sweden, as a branch of the Husqvarna armament firm which had supplied the Swedish army with rifles since 1689.
The Concept E-go is Husqvarna’s solution to electric motorcycling and how to enthuse the young generation to the spirit of riding and freedom. Change is inevitable, and Husqvarna is ready, with an advanced technological concept and a highly personal design.
Little is known about the intended market for the machine as power output figures will figure prominently in the availability of the machine in different markets. Husqvarna says the Concept E-go weighs in at just 80 kg.. As you can see form the images, there’s not a lot of battery room in the Ego design, and significant weight savings would come from that along with a reduced range, fingers crossed that battery technology catches up to design.
The Concept E-go also boasts exclusive technical innovations such as the “ single sided double leg fork” , with 35 mm of inner tube and the aluminium single side swing arm. The battery support is also constructed from aluminium, the frame and oval piping is made from steel, while the seat is self-supporting. The Concept E-go is a single-seater, because that is the Husqvarna way. Undiluted fun, dynamism and an ecologically-friendly philosophy combined for the first time in an electric powered two wheeler. Short and compact, on the Concept E-go, urban traffic will seem like a videogame that will be fun and easy to skilfully nE-gotiate.
Perhaps most interesting is Husqvarna’s pitch to young riders. The debut press announcement mentions “young” and “first-time” riders repeatedly. Husqvarna’s bid for the youth sector makes perfect sense, particularly in the European market. While the current performance of electric motorcycles flag behind traditional ICE designs, they are comparable to the low-displacement horsepower-restricted mounts mandated by Europe’s tiered licensing laws.
