"Therefore, salt is good; but if even salt has become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned?" is the core of today’s message.
Salt must have its salty taste, and we are called to be disciples with that taste. Simply attending church does not make one salt. To become salt, we must follow Jesus. This involves hating those we love, even our own lives, and carrying the cross we must bear. Only then do we become salt.
Look at what Jesus went through. He is our salt, our eternal salt. That’s why it’s called the covenant of salt. To enter into that covenant, we too must have the taste of salt. We must deny ourselves and carry our cross.
The essence of the church is defined by what kind of holy people of God the members are. When there are holy people of God who follow Jesus, that’s when the church truly reflects its purpose. A good church is one filled with people who, like Jesus, have the saltiness of salt and shine light in the darkness.
