A new ranking has revealed the top 50 best rooftop bars in Europe for 2023, from laid-back beachside boozers to ultra-sleek urban cocktail bars.

The list, drawn up by Big 7 Travel, is based on scores from social media users and the thoughts of the travel site's editorial team.

Taking the top spot is a bar that crowns a multi-storey car park in Peckham, London. Second place, meanwhile, is claimed by a Spanish watering hole that serves 'mouth-watering' Mediterranean fare, and third place goes to a 'slick' Northern Lights-viewing spot in Reykjavik.
Big 7 Travel says: 'There’s only one thing to do when the heat and humidity hit – find the nearest rooftop bar and cool down with a cocktail or two.' Take its advice - and use this list for guidance on where to go.

10. MAMA SHELTER, BORDEAUX, FRANCE: Big 7 Travel bills this space, set atop the Bordeaux branch of the Mama Shelter hotel chain in the historic centre of the city, as a ‘blockbuster rooftop bar’. The travel site says: ‘If you’re looking to grab a drink at one of the most beautifully designed rooftop bars in Europe, Mama Shelter is the place to be. There are slouchy bean bags... and magnificent views of the city below.’ It recommends dropping by on a Sunday to indulge in the rooftop’s ‘weekly burger party’. Don't miss the venue's Sunday burger parties, Big 7 Travel advises, adding that it's wise to try a glass of local Bordeaux wine while you're there.
