Pak Se-ri Named to World Golf Hall of Fame

Korean golf champ Pak Se-ri has been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. But she still has a few dreams to realize: achieving a career grand slam and being named the golfer of the year. She is participating in the Macdonald's LPGA Championship, which opened at Bulle Rock in Maryland on Thursday.

For lady golfers, completing a career grand slam means winning all of the four major tournaments -- the Macdonald's LPGA Championship, the U.S. Women's Open, the British Women's Open and the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Pak has racked up 23 wins including five victories in major tournaments since she started playing with the LPGA in 1998, but she has never won the Nabisco Championship. She finished in 10th place in April's Nabisco after losing shot control while the leader of the pack in the middle of the final round.

By scoring the necessary points in her 10th LPGA event this season, Pak has become the first Asian inductee of the Hall of Fame, and the youngest. The Hall was established in 1967 and now features the names of 23 players.

The Korean golfer held a special press conference after the first round of the McDonald's Championship. LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens and Hall of Fame officials were at the press conference, as were several other Korean golfers. Pak was given a celebratory garland and cut a cake. An official party to celebrate the achievement will be held in Daytona Beach in Florida on Sept. 23 with 200 people invited.

Summer Fashions Are Bold for Boys and Girls

Many men want to look like the pan-Asian heartthrob Rain, not least because of the singer’s magnificent pecs. And the fashion industry is already waiting to welcome the newly pumped-up of chest with plunging V-necks.

Once upon a time, the neckline plunged some 12 to 15 cm, but this year it’s as low as 25 to 30 cm. Men in their 20s and 30s are snapping them up. “Young guys want to catch the eyes of girls by showing off their muscles,” a Lotte Department Store staffer says. “They are not shy to choose clothes that highlight their toned body.” Smoking and drinking are out, pumping up the bosom is in, and fashion reflects the trend.

Men’s fashion brands including Intermezzo sold some 80 percent of their low-cut tops since they launched them in April. Considering that sales of between 55 and 65 percent are regarded as a hit in the fashion industry, this is a mega-hit. An Intermezzo spokesman says, “We thought tops with a deep V-neckline would be only for display. But they started selling like hot cakes. One of our consumer said he does not have the toned body for it now, but he will bulk up now he’s bought the top.

Fashion for women is also becoming bolder as the summer approaches. It’s no longer just boys who show their underwear label above the waistband of their trousers. Low-rise jeans and miniskirts mean that women’s underwear is becoming bold, one industry insider says.
