Answer me when I call to you, O my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress;

How long, O men, will you turn my glory into shame?

Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself;

Many are asking, "Who can show us any good?"

주께서 내 마음에 두신 기쁨은

You have filled my heart with greater joy

저희의 곡식과 새 포도주의 풍성할 때보다 더하니이다

than when their grain and new wine abound.

요한이 옥에서 그리스도의 하신 일을 듣고 제자들을 보내어 예수께 여짜오되 오실 그이가 당신이오니이까 우리가 다른 이를 기다리오리이까 예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 너희가 가서 듣고 보는 것을 요한에게 고하되 소경이 보며 앉은뱅이가 걸으며 문둥이가 깨끗함을 받으며 귀머거리가 들으며 죽은 자가 살아나며 가난한 자에게 복음이 전파된다 하라 누구든지 나를 인하여 실족하지 아니하는 자는 복이 있도다 하시니라 마태복음 11:2-6

Now when John, while imprisoned, heard of the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples and said to Him, "Are You the Expected One, or shall we look for someone else?" Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you hear and see: the BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM. "And blessed is he who does not take offense at Me." Matthew 11:2-6

세례요한을 생각함 Considering John the Baptist

지난 10장에서 우리는 이런 구절을 보았습니다.

선지자의 이름으로 선지자를 영접하는 자는 선지자의 상을 받을 것이요 의인의 이름으로 의인을 영접하는 자는 의인의 상을 받을 것이요 마태복음 10:41

아마 누구라도 기왕이면 좀 더 나은 상을 받기를 원할 것입니다. 물론 그것이 욕심이 아니고 하나님 앞에 정당한 의로운 방법이어야 할 것입니다. 그리고 우리는 이러한 바람이 내가 다른 사람보다 더 높아지려는 의도에 의한 것이 아니어야 한다는 것도 잘 알고 있습니다. 위 본문에서는 하나님께서 제시하신 의롭게 되는 방편을 말하는 것이지 서로를 비교해서 더 높아지려 하는 것이 아닙니다. 교만은 패망의 선봉장입니다.

세례요한은 예수님을 그리스도로 증거 한 매우 중요한 인물이었습니다. 심지어 예수님께서 그에게 세례를 받기까지 하셨습니다. 그런데 오늘 본문을 읽어보면 결국 그는 마지막 순간에 예수께서 그리스도이신지 확신하지 못하고 순교를 당하게 됨을 봅니다. 이런 안타까운 상황을 모세의 경우에서도 발견할 수 있습니다. 모세는 그토록 바라던 가나안을 바라만보고 결국 들어가지는 못하고 맙니다.

이 두 분은 무슨 이유로 성경에 이런 안타까운 인물로 남아 우리에게 무엇을 말하고 있을까요? 우리는 그 이유를 처음에 인용한 성경구절에서 찾아보려 합니다. 오늘을 살아가는 우리 모두는 이러한 분들의 토대 위에 신앙생활을 하고 있습니다. 지금은 모든 성경이 다 이루어진 시대입니다. 그러나 우리가 ‘무엇을 듣느냐?’에 따라서 우리의 믿음이 달라지고 각자가 받을 상급도 달라집니다.

모세도 가나안을 증거 했고 여호수아도 그러했습니다. 그러나 모세는 장차 가나안에 들어갈 것만 증거 했지만 여호수아는 직접 가나안에 들어가 함께 살았습니다. 요한은 그리스도를 증거 했지만 정작 그리스도 안에 들어가지는 못했습니다. 예수께서는 그리스도로서 계셨고 그렇게 증거 하셨습니다. 그렇다면 이러한 기록들이 오늘을 살아가는 신앙인들에게 어떻게 적용되어야 할까요?

예수께서는 보혜사 성령을 보내신다고 하셨습니다.

보혜사 곧 아버지께서 내 이름으로 보내실 성령 그가 너희에게 모든 것을 가르치시고 내가 너희에게 말한 모든 것을 생각나게 하시리라. 요한복음 14:26

그리고 사람들은 오순절 성령 강림 때 주께서 말씀하신 보혜사 성령이 오셨다고 하였습니다. 하지만 성령은 분명 구약에서도 이 땅에 역사하셨고 주님도 역시 “세상에 계셨으며” 그렇기에 아브라함도 주님의 때 볼 것을 즐거워하다가 보고 기뻐하였다고 할 수 있었던 것입니다.

그러면 오늘을 살아가는 우리들은 과연 무엇을 듣고 무엇을 믿을 것입니까? 이 땅에서 우리는 성령을 받는 것만 듣고 있으면 성령을 받은 믿음을 갖게 되고 그런 증거를 얻을 수 있을 것입니다. 그리고 모세나 요한처럼 가나안을 증거하고 그리스도가 오실 것을 증거 할 수도 있을 것입니다. 하지만 정작 모세가 가나안에 들어가지 못하듯이 천국을 갈 것으로 믿기는 하지만 천국을 현재 소유하지는 못한 채 신앙생활을 하게 됩니다.

여호수아는 헬라어로 그 발음이 예수와 같습니다. 또한 그 역할이 예수께서 천국을 오늘에 이루어진다 하신 것처럼 이스라엘 백성과 함께 가나안에 들어갔습니다. 그러나 여호수아는 결코 모세의 자리에 앉지 않았습니다. 그는 곧 이스라엘 백성들 전부와 다를 바가 없었습니다. 사람들은 여호수아를 바라 본 것이 아니고 약속의 성취를 경험했던 것입니다. 천국은 우리들에게 주신 언약의 성취입니다. 그리고 그것은 주와 연합함을 의미합니다. 가나안이 이 땅이었듯이 천국도 그러하고 그래서 우리는 주님과 이 땅에서 연합함을 증거하고 있습니다.

In the last chapter 10, we saw this phrase.

He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. Matthew 10:41

Perhaps everyone wants a better prize. Of course, it should be a just and righteous way before God, not greed. And we are well aware that this desire should not be intended to rise above others. In the text above, it refers to God's righteousness, not to rise higher by comparing each other. Pride is the vanguard of defeat.

John the Baptist was a very important person who proved Jesus as Christ. Jesus was even baptized by him. However, if you read the text today, you will see that at the end, he is not sure that Jesus is Christ and is martyred. This unfortunate situation can also be found in Moses' case. Moses only looks at Canaan, which he longed for, and ends up not getting in.

Why do these two remain in the Bible and say something to us? We'd like to look at the Bible verse, which cited the reason in the beginning. All of us who live today are religious on the basis of these people. This is the time when all the bible was written. But our beliefs and our respective superiors differ depending on what we hear.

Moses demonstrated Canaan, and so did Joshua. But while Moses only proved that he would enter Canaan in the future, Joshua himself lived in Canaan. John testified of Christ, but he did not. Jesus was there as Christ and did so. So how should these records be applied to the believers living today?

Jesus said that he would send the Holy Spirit of Helper.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. John 14:26

And the people said that the Holy Spirit of Helper, whom the Lord said, came during Pentecostal Advent. But the Holy Spirit certainly lived in this land in the Old Testament and the Lord was also "in the world," so Abraham was happy to see what the Lord had to see.

So what will we hear and what will we believe in today? We will have faith in the Holy Spirit and will be able to obtain such evidence on this earth by simply listening to it. Additionally, you might be able to demonstrate Canaan and Christ's coming, just like Moses and John. Although you believe that Moses will go to heaven just as he cannot enter Canaan, he does not currently own heaven and leads a life of faith.

Joshua has the same pronunciation as Jesus in Hella. He also entered Canaan with the people of Israel, just as Jesus said heaven is to be made today. But Joshua never sat in the seat of Moses. He was no different from all the people of Israel. They did not look at Joshua, but experienced the fulfillment of their promises. Heaven is the achievement of the covenant that he gave us. And it means uniting with the Lord. Just as Canaan was this land, so is heaven, so we are proving unity with the Lord in this land.

Numbers 6:24-26
