SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung reaffirmed his commitment Wednesday to establishing a permanent peace regime on the Korean Peninsula, also pledging efforts to help resume dialogue between the North and the United States to establish peace.
서울, 9월 2일 (연합뉴스) -- 이재명 대통령은 수요일 한반도에 상설 평화 체제를 구축하겠다는 의지를 재확인하며, 북미 대화 재개를 통해 평화를 이루기 위한 노력을 약속했습니다.

The president reiterated the commitment during a gathering of the American unit of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, a presidential advisory body on unification, in Incheon, west of Seoul.
이재명 대통령은 서울 서쪽 인천에서 열린 통일 관련 대통령 자문기구인 평화통일자문위원회의 미국 대표단 모임에서 그 약속을 다시 한 번 강조했다.

In his Liberation Day speech on Aug. 15, Lee proposed that the two Koreas begin talks on ending their long-running war and discuss practical ways to halt the advancement of Pyongyang's nuclear program, pledging to seek a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.
8월 15일 해방기념일 연설에서 이승만 전 대통령은 남북이 오랜 전쟁을 끝내기 위한 대화를 시작하고 평양의 핵 프로그램 진전을 막을 현실적인 방안을 논의할 것을 제안하며, 한반도에 평화 체제를 추구하겠다고 약속했다.

The divided Koreas have technically remained at war since the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty.
분단된 한반도는 1950년부터 1953년까지의 한국전쟁이 휴전으로 끝났지만 평화조약이 체결되지 않아 기술적으로는 계속 전쟁 상태를 유지하고 있습니다.

"To prevent tensions from rekindling due to shifts in domestic politics or changes in the international situation, (we) should replace the armistice based on conflict and confrontation with a peace regime anchored in cooperation and prosperity," Lee told the gathering.
"국내 정치의 변화나 국제 정세의 변동으로 긴장이 다시 고조되는 것을 막기 위해, (우리는) 갈등과 대립에 기반한 휴전을 협력과 번영에 뿌리를 둔 평화 체제로 대체해야 한다"고 말했습니다.

The president noted that the two Koreas are wasting their energies in unnecessary confrontation, calling it an "unfortunate" and "tragic" reality that should be reversed.
이재명 대통령은 남북한이 불필요한 대립에 에너지를 낭비하고 있다며, 이를 '안타깝고' '비극적인' 현실로 규정하고 반드시 바뀌어야 한다고 지적했다.

He reiterated his three-point action plan for ensuring peaceful coexistence with North Korea, unveiled in his Liberation Day speech, which involves inclusive, stable and responsible approaches.
이재명 대통령은 해방기념일 연설에서 발표한 북한과의 평화적 공존을 위한 3대 행동 계획을 다시 한 번 강조했으며, 이 계획은 포용적이고 안정적이며 책임 있는 접근 방식을 포함하고 있습니다.

"For inclusive peaceful coexistence, (the South and the North) should respect each other. Peace begins when they respect their differences, rather than when all think alike," Lee said.
"포용적이고 평화로운 공존을 위해 (남과 북은) 서로를 존중해야 합니다. 평화는 모두가 똑같이 생각할 때가 아니라 서로의 차이를 존중할 때 시작됩니다,"라고 리가 말했습니다.

Lee stressed that Seoul should be the one to pave the way for the resumption of North Korea-U.S. dialogue, as his government seeks to leverage U.S. President Donald Trump's reengagement with Pyongyang to mend the prolonged rupture in inter-Korean relations.
이재명 대통령은 북한과 미국 간 대화 재개를 위해 서울이 앞장서야 한다고 강조했다. 그의 정부는 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 평양과 재개한 기회를 활용해 오랜 기간 이어진 남북 관계 단절을 해소하려 하고 있다.

"Since a possibility of a shift in the situation on the Korean Peninsula, no matter how small, has been created by President Trump's determination, we should be the one to create an environment for constructive discussions on building trust and resuming dialogue between the U.S. and North Korea," he told the meeting.
"트럼프 대통령의 결단으로 한반도 상황에 작은 변화라도 생길 가능성이 생겼으니, 미국과 북한 간 신뢰 구축과 대화 재개를 위한 건설적인 논의 환경을 만드는 것은 우리 몫이어야 한다"고 그는 회의에서 말했다.

"Ensuring peace on the Korean Peninsula is not an issue just for us. It is a key task in ensuring the security of Northeast Asia and peace in the world," the president added.
"한반도의 평화를 보장하는 것은 우리만의 문제가 아닙니다. 이는 동북아시아의 안보와 세계 평화를 보장하는 데 중요한 과제라고 대통령은 덧붙였습니다.
