In today's passage, we see that even the servants of the rich man ignored Lazarus, and even the dogs disregarded him. He lived as the most despised person in the world. Then Lazarus died, and the rich man also died. Lazarus was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom, and the rich man was buried.
If we do not listen to the Law and the Prophets given through Moses, even if someone were to rise from the dead and speak to us, it would be meaningless. Therefore, the Law and the Prophets of Moses hold far greater power than the miracle of someone rising from the dead. This is why we must listen carefully to these words.
Living a life that eases the burdens of others, whether it be theirs or someone else's, or forgiving the debts of those who owe us, is not an ordinary life. When we live such a life, God will take that person to heaven. Although Lazarus lived a life ignored even by dogs, he did not forget the faith that he was a descendant of Abraham.
