The faith "like a mustard seed" is not small faith, but rather the faith of the servant mentioned in the passage. This servant humbly considers himself as nothing before his master. He is grateful to his master and is even more thankful when given rest. It is the attitude that can only be attained by viewing oneself as the smallest of servants.
Therefore, faith like a mustard seed is the greatest faith. It emphasizes viewing oneself as small in faith. The vitality of the seed in today's passage represents the vitality of faith—a faith that regards oneself as small, serves God as the great one, and also serves all members of the church. When one holds this kind of faith, God grants the authority of faith.
