[틈틈이 영어공부] I'm going to show her the sights.

- 영한 : ~에게 명소/명승지/관광를 안내하다, 관광 시켜주다.

- 영영 : You can use it when you want to suggest taking someone to visit places of interest.

- 유사 : show somebody the door (~에게 나가라고/떠나라고 하다)
※그 사람 그냥 돌려보내세요. (Just show him the door.)

- 예문 : 

I showed my parents the sights when they were visiting me last week.
지난 주에 부모님이 오셨을 때 관광지를 보여드렸어요.

When I go to New York I want you to show me the sights.
뉴욕에 가면 관광지 안내 좀 해줘요.

I'll show you the sights of the city. 
시내 구경을 시켜 드리겠습니다.

Dan: Where are you going to go when your ex-girlfriend visits you?
댄: 옛날 여자친구가 오면 어디로 데려갈거야?

Roger: I'm going to show her the sights. I'll take her everywhere.
로저: 관광시켜줄 거야. 온갖 곳에 다 데리고 가야지.

Dan: Has she been here before?
댄: 여기 방문해본 적이 있어?

Roger: Yes but it was some time ago
로저: 하긴 했지만 좀 오래 전이야.

Dan: There are some great restaurants you can take her to.
댄: 데려갈 만한 좋은 식당이 아주 많잖아.

Roger: I know. I want to turn her on to that seafood restaurant at the beach.
로저: 알아. 해변가에 그 해물식당을 소개해줄까 해.

Dan: That's a good one.
댄: 그거 좋지.

Roger: And I was thinking about taking her to Melrose Avenue.
로저: 그리고 멜로즈 애비뉴에 대려갈가 생각중이야.

Dan: That sounds good. There are a lot of interesting shops there.
댄: 그거 좋겠네. 거기 흥미로운 가게가 많지.

Roger: With so many places to take her I'm going to play it by ear.
로저: 갈 곳이 워낙 많아서 어떻게 되가는지 보면서 하려고 해.


[기억할만한 표현]
▶ some time ago: 오래 전에
“I spoke to him, but it was some time ago. I haven‘t seen him recently.” 
(그 사람과 얘기 했는데 오래 됐어요. 최근엔 보지 못했죠.)

▶ turn (one) on to (someone or something): (~를) (~에게) 소개해주다.
“A friend in high school turned me on to jazz.” 
(고등학교때 친구가 내게 재즈를 소개 해줬죠.)

▶ play it by ear: 정확히 어떻게 할지 모르지만 상황에 따라 결정하다.
“I don’t know what I‘m making for dinner. I’m going to play it by ear.” 
(저녁 식단을 뭘로 할지 모르겠어요. 그냥 상황 보고 결정할래요.)
