Jung Jae Il:
From 100 years ago to today, we finally got the lyrics.
Descriptions/headings provided by the music video:
In 1919, seven women independence fighters were confined to Cell No.8 of Seodaemun Prison.
It is said they have sung songs of the desire of their country's independence,
And thanks to the records kept by the descendants of the independence fighters, only the lyrics remain.
Singing once again the song of Cell No.8
Music Director: Jung Jae Il
Q: Did you hear the background story of these lyrics?
Jung Jae Il: Among those who have taken part in the independence movement, I have heard that this song was sung by the seven women who were put in prison. The son of an independent activist said it was a song that his mother used to sing, and I have it was also a song that used repetition. It is a song that almost disappeared. With a new melody, I thought we should all remember this song together.
Q: What kind of emotion and feelings do you want to include in the song?
Jung Jae Il: Remembering and recalling those who have sung this song, they must have felt feelings of both horrendous misery and despair. When I added a new melody, with the theme of drawing hopes for the future, I thought I should try to make that kind of melody. One I hope everyone in Korea will remember.
Song's title: A Prayer (Korea is still alive)
Lena park, Kim Yuna, Jung Jae Il
Lyrics:
All seven prisoners wearing mud-colored uniforms
With both of our bent knees resting on the floor, praying to God
Two plates filled with rice and beans, thrown out of the open window
We prayed with our blood and tears, we prayed with our blood and tears
Korea is still alive, Korea is still alive
The mountains tremble and the sea boils
Eh-hey Deh-hey, Eh-hey Deh-hey
Korea is still alive, Korea is still alive
Narration at the end:
All seven prisoners wearing mud-colored uniforms
With both of our bent knees resting on the floor, praying to God
Two plates filled with rice and beans, thrown out of the open window
We prayed with our blood and tears, we prayed with our blood and tears
Kim Hwang Hwa, Kwon Ae Ra, Shin Gwan Bin, Shim Myung Chul, Lim Myung Ae, Eo Yoon Hee, and Yoo Gwan Soon
The hot voices singing about tomorrow, we will never forget
