Jesus asks the person who kept the one mina why he didn’t at least put it in the bank to earn interest. If this master was indeed a strict one, as the man claimed, then when he told him to do business with it, he meant to make a profit.
This person did not take the master’s words literally but acted according to his own thoughts, regardless of what the master actually said. Similarly, some people go to church and listen to sermons but live according to their own thoughts rather than following God’s word. Such people often show no growth in faith over the years and bear no fruit.
The main point of the passage is not about the person who earned ten minas with one mina but rather about the person who only kept the one mina without increasing it. This is a message for those who do not bear fruit.
Especially for men—God has given men roles in the church and responsibilities in their families. Rather than offering their own opinions, they should bear fruit. May they understand and grow to become holy people of God who bear fruit.
