《Brain Salad Surgery》는 영국 프로그레시브 록 밴드 에머슨, 레이크 & 파머의 네 번째 정규 앨범으로, 1973년 12월 7일 새 레이블인 맨티코어 레코드(Manticore Records)에서 발매되었고, 애틀랜틱 레코드(Atlantic Records)에서 배급되었습니다.

이전 앨범 《Trilogy》(1972)의 투어 이후, 밴드는 새로운 음악 작업을 위해 연습실을 마련했고, 클래식과 록을 결합한 새로운 음악 스타일을 추구했습니다. 밴드는 음악 제작을 직접 관리하기 위해 1973년 3월 자체 레이블인 맨티코어 레코드를 설립했습니다. 앨범은 6월부터 9월까지 올림픽 스튜디오(Olympic Studios)와 애드비전 스튜디오(Advision Studios)에서 녹음되었고, 10월에는 런던의 AIR 스튜디오에서 믹싱되었습니다. 이전 작품들과 마찬가지로 그렉 레이크(Greg Lake)가 프로듀싱을 맡았으며, 앨범 커버는 H. 배경
1972년 6월 세 번째 앨범인 《트릴로지(Trilogy)》를 발매한 후, 그룹은 유럽과 미국 전역을 순회하며 매진 행렬을 이어갔습니다. 1973년 초, 에머슨, 레이크 & 파머는 영국과 미국에서 상업적으로 큰 성공을 거두었습니다.

그룹은 소속 레코드사인 애틀랜틱 레코드(Atlantic Records)의 소극적인 운영에 다소 불만을 품게 되었습니다. 1973년 1월경, 키스 에머슨, 그렉 레이크, 칼 파머, 그리고 매니저 스튜어트 영은 자신들의 레코드 회사를 설립하기로 결정했습니다. 그들은 웨스트 런던 풀럼에 있는 버려진 ABC 영화관을 매입하여 리허설룸과 회사 본부로 개조했고, 이 회사는 나중에 맨티코어 레코드(Manticore Records)로 이름을 바꾸게 됩니다.
