<결단 기도>
2. Today’s Devotional Column (October 13) : Lay Down Your Own Thoughts and Follow God’s Way
<Today’s Scripture>
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. Isaiah 55:8 (NIV)
<A Reflection from Oswald Chambers>
“We must realize how rude it is to try to do God’s work in our own way.”
English rendering of the Korean devotional quotation.
<Related Scripture>
“Some time later, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were and watched them at their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people.” — Exodus 2:11 (NIV)
<Today’s Reflection>
Sometimes we become so eager to do something for God that we begin to act according to our own ideas rather than seeking His will. We work hard for the church, serve our neighbors, and desire to share the gospel. Yet even with good intentions, we can get ahead of God and rely more on our own judgment than on His guidance.
Moses saw the suffering of his fellow Israelites and could not simply ignore their pain. His concern for his people may have been sincere, but he acted according to his own judgment and killed an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew slave (Exodus 2:11–12). His desire to help was not enough to make his actions right. He still needed to learn to trust God's timing and follow God's way.
We, too, can fall into this trap. We may say we are working for God while moving ahead of prayer, relying on our own understanding instead of Scripture, or rushing toward results instead of waiting for God's direction. A good purpose does not automatically make every method right.
God's thoughts are higher than ours, and His ways are wiser than the paths we would choose for ourselves. Faith is not about persuading God to accomplish our plans. It is about surrendering our plans to Him and learning to walk according to His will.
The most important question is not simply what we are doing for God, but whether we are doing it in accordance with His will. Before we act, let us pray. Before we decide, let us seek the wisdom of Scripture. And when we must wait, let us trust God's timing. As we lay down our own thoughts, we make room for God's wisdom to guide our lives.
<Key Sentence for Today>
“More important than our zeal to work for God is our obedience to His will.”
<Prayer of Commitment>
Heavenly Father, forgive me for putting my own thoughts and methods ahead of Your will, even when I believed I was serving You. Keep me from justifying my actions merely because my intentions are good. Teach me to seek Your will through prayer and Your Word before I act. Help me trust Your plans rather than my own, wait for Your timing rather than insist on mine, and follow Your ways with a willing and obedient heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
