[naya go]

<What Is the Role of Progressive Intellectuals?>

If you are a progressive intellectual, you must understand that your growth and education were made possible by the blood, sweat, and hard work of the people.

Therefore, it is your responsibility to help open a path for those people to live better lives.

Because ordinary people worked hard and supported society, we were able to receive an education and gain knowledge. Once we have acquired that knowledge, we should not use it merely to live comfortably or struggle only to earn a higher salary.

The more hardship the people endure and the harder they work, the more opportunities society can provide for intellectuals to emerge. Therefore, those who have gained knowledge should study the problems and difficulties that ordinary people cannot solve on their own, organize solutions, and use their abilities for the benefit of society. When intellectuals live in this way, they naturally earn the respect of the people.

Progressive intellectuals should study society as a whole and provide practical guidance that helps people live better lives. They should research and design social systems that allow society to function more wisely and fairly.

Before trying to intervene in or correct others, however, we must first establish a sound philosophy and principles for how we ourselves should live.

If you are a progressive intellectual, this is the role you are called to fulfill in society.
