(Prayer Itself Is the Greater Work)
<오늘의 결단>
Prayer Itself Is the Greater Work
<Today's Scripture>
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Matthew 3:2
<Oswald Chambers' Meditation>
“Prayer does not prepare us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work itself.”
<Today's Meditation>
John the Baptist proclaimed in the wilderness, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Repentance is more than feeling sorry for our mistakes. It means turning away from a life centered on ourselves and submitting to the rule of God. The nearness of God's kingdom reminds us that He is the true Lord of our lives and that our thoughts, desires, and decisions must come under His authority.
How, then, can we discern God's will and learn to live in obedience to Him? One essential answer is prayer. Yet we often regard prayer merely as preparation for ministry. We think we must pray first so that we can accomplish important things afterward, treating prayer as a necessary step before the real work begins. Oswald Chambers challenges this way of thinking by reminding us that prayer itself is the greater work.
Prayer is not simply a time to ask God for what we want. It is a time to lay down our own desires before Him, seek His will, and surrender our hearts and lives to His rule. Prayer, therefore, is not merely preparation for ministry. Our living fellowship with God is itself a precious work, and through that fellowship, our lives are transformed to reflect His purposes.
In John 14:12, Jesus promises that those who believe in Him will do the works He has been doing and even greater works. This does not mean that our abilities will surpass His. Rather, it points to the continuing work of the Holy Spirit and the spread of the gospel through Christ's disciples after His return to the Father. The power to carry out the Lord's work does not ultimately come from us; it comes from Him.
Therefore, instead of rushing about in pursuit of visible results, we must first learn to remain in God's presence. We must seek His will in prayer, obey what He reveals, and follow the path along which the Holy Spirit leads us. A person who appears busy in the eyes of others is not necessarily engaged in greater ministry. Likewise, prayers offered in a place where no one sees or recognizes us are never meaningless before God.
Today, we must ask ourselves: Am I praying merely to accomplish more, or am I praying to know God more deeply and obey His will?
Those who belong to God's kingdom do not regard prayer as a secondary tool for ministry. Through prayer, they draw near to God, surrender their own desires, and seek the fulfillment of His will. Prayer is not merely preparation for beginning a greater work; it is the greater work itself, as we walk with God and participate in fulfilling His purposes.
Today's Commitment
Lord, help me not to regard prayer merely as preparation for ministry. Teach me to recognize it as a precious work through which I fellowship with You and seek to fulfill Your will. Rather than putting my own desires first, help me seek Your purposes, listen attentively to Your voice in prayer, and walk in obedience. May I treasure deep fellowship with You more than visible results and seek Your kingdom and righteousness throughout this day. Amen.
