(토라포션 48주차: 쇼프팀(재판장들)
누구의 말을 들어야 하는가?
Whom Should We Listen To?
선지자를 일으키실 약속 / The Promise of the Prophet to Come
본문 / Scripture: 신명기 18:15-22; 마태복음 3:1-17; 요한복음 14:9-20
토라 포션 제48주차: 쇼프팀(재판관들) / Torah Portion 48: Shoftim (Judges)
들어가는 말 / Introduction
Dear brothers and sisters, we live in a world filled with many voices. The world keeps telling us, “This is the way to success. You need this in order to be happy. You need other people’s approval in order to have value.” Many people even claim to speak in God’s name. Some predict the future, while others present their own ideas as the will of God. So whom should we listen to? How can we know whether a message truly comes from God? With these questions in our hearts, let us turn to God’s Word today.
The forty-eighth Torah portion, Shoftim, covers Deuteronomy 16:18 through 21:9. It begins with these words: “Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the Lord your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly” (Deut. 16:18). The Hebrew word Shoftim means “judges.” In this portion, we meet several kinds of leaders who were to guide the community of Israel: judges and officials, kings, priests and Levites, and prophets.
하나님께서는 이스라엘이 가나안 땅에 들어간 후 인간의 욕망과 이방 민족의 풍습을 따라 살지 않도록 말씀과 질서와 지도자들을 주셨습니다. 그러나 인간 지도자는 모두 불완전합니다. 재판장은 불공정할 수 있고, 왕은 교만해질 수 있으며, 제사장은 타락할 수 있고, 거짓 선지자는 하나님의 이름을 이용할 수 있습니다.
After Israel entered the land of Canaan, God gave His people His Word, a godly order, and leaders so that they would not follow human desires or the ways of the nations around them. Yet every human leader is imperfect. A judge can be unfair. A king can become proud. A priest can become corrupt. A false prophet can misuse the name of God.
오늘 우리가 사방을 둘러보아도 정말 믿을 만한 사람이 있습니까? 사법 절차와 국가 제도를 규율하는 법이 있어도 지키지 않는 사람이 많고, 나라는 위태로운 가운데 유지되고 있습니다. 이런 때에 우리는 누구를 바라보아야 합니까?
When we look around today, is there anyone we can trust completely? We may have laws that guide the courts and the institutions of our nation, yet many people do not honor them. Our society often seems to be standing on shaky ground. In a time like this, to whom should we look?
In Deuteronomy 18, God directs our eyes to one particular person: “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him” (Deut. 18:15). This is more than a promise that one more prophet would appear. It is a promise in God’s plan of redemption. God would send a special prophet like Moses and continue to lead His saving work through him.
이 약속은 말라기 선지자 이후 약 400년의 침묵을 지나 신약에 이르러 세례 요한의 외침을 통해 준비되었고, 마침내 예수 그리스도 안에서 성취되었습니다. 그리고 진리의 영이신 성령을 통해 오늘 우리 가운데 깨달아지고 삶 속에 적용됩니다. 할렐루야!
After the prophet Malachi came about four hundred years of silence. Then, in the New Testament, John the Baptist prepared the way with his cry in the wilderness. At last, this promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. And today, through the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, we understand this promise and live it out in our daily lives. Hallelujah!
선지자란 누구인가? / What Is a Prophet?
The Bible calls such a person a prophet. The Hebrew word is navi (נָבִיא), a person called by God. A prophet is called to faithfully communicate God’s will to people, whether it concerns the present or the future. So a prophet is not simply someone who predicts what will happen later. A true prophet also speaks God’s truth into the life of the present day, always grounded in God’s Word.
When I entered seminary, a professor well known for counseling told us a story from an admissions interview. He asked one applicant, “Why did you decide to come to Hansei University?” The student answered, “One day while I was praying, I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, ‘Do not go east; go west!’ I looked west, saw Hansei University in Gunpo, and came here.” It sounded very spiritual and impressive.
But the professor replied, “How stubborn must you have been for God to shout right into your ear? From now on, read the Bible you can see with your own eyes—at least as many times as your age—and become a servant of the Lord who lives by that Word.” Sadly, that confused student still carries on a confused ministry. Whenever I ask, “Whom should we listen to?” I remember this story. Then I must ask myself, “Am I truly listening to God’s Word, and am I living in a way that honors it?”
성경은 거룩한 경전입니다. 그 중심을 이루는 모세오경을 토라라고 부르는데, 토라는 ‘교훈’이라는 뜻입니다. 성경은 우리에게 주신 하나님의 사랑의 편지입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 읽고 또 읽다 보면 우리를 구원하시려는 하나님의 마음이 드러나고, 그분의 사랑을 알게 됩니다.
The Bible is the Holy Scripture. Its first five books are called the Torah, a word that means “instruction.” The Bible is God’s letter of love to us. As we read His Word again and again, we begin to see His heart to save us, and we come to know His love.
1. 하나님께서는 거짓된 영적 통로를 금하셨습니다 / God Forbids False Spiritual Paths
신명기 18장에는 두 종류의 선지자, 곧 거짓 선지자와 참된 선지자가 등장합니다. 하나님께서는 모세와 같은 선지자를 세우시겠다고 약속하시며 “너희는 그의 말을 들을지니라”고 명령하십니다. 그러므로 우리는 거짓 선지자와 참된 선지자를 분별해야 합니다.
Deuteronomy 18 presents two kinds of prophets: false prophets and true prophets. God promises to raise up a prophet like Moses and commands His people, “You must listen to him.” Therefore, we must learn to tell the difference between a false prophet and a true one.
신명기 18장 9-14절에는 이스라엘 백성이 가나안 땅에서 따라서는 안 될 가증한 행위들이 기록되어 있습니다. 자녀를 불 가운데 지나가게 하는 인신 제사, 곧 몰렉 숭배를 비롯하여 점치는 사람, 길흉을 말하는 사람, 요술하는 사람, 무당, 진언자, 신접한 사람, 죽은 자에게 묻는 사람을 용납하지 말라고 하셨습니다.
Deuteronomy 18:9-14 lists the detestable practices Israel must not follow in Canaan. These included sacrificing sons or daughters in the fire in the worship of Molek, as well as fortune-telling, interpreting signs, sorcery, casting spells, consulting mediums or spirits, and seeking answers from the dead.
당시 이방 민족들은 미래에 대한 두려움을 이기기 위해 점술과 주술에 의지했습니다. 그들은 하나님의 말씀을 기다리기보다 자신들이 원하는 때에 원하는 답을 얻으려 했습니다. 오늘날도 모습만 달라졌을 뿐 우리 주변에서 같은 일을 많이 볼 수 있습니다.
The surrounding nations depended on fortune-telling and magic to overcome their fear of the future. Instead of waiting for God’s Word, they wanted an answer whenever they wanted it and in the form they wanted. The outward form may be different today, but the same desire is still all around us.
그러나 하나님께서는 “너는 네 하나님 여호와 앞에서 완전하라”(신 18:13)고 말씀하셨습니다. 여기서 ‘완전하라’는 것은 실수가 전혀 없는 사람이 되라는 뜻만이 아닙니다. 마음을 나누지 말고 전적으로 하나님을 의지하라는 뜻입니다.
But God said, “You must be blameless before the Lord your God” (Deut. 18:13). To be blameless here does not simply mean that we never make a mistake. It means that our hearts are not divided. We are to trust the Lord fully and wholeheartedly.
At its heart, fortune-telling is an attempt to control the future without trusting God. Instead of praying and waiting for God’s will, a person tries to get the answer he or she wants and then live according to a personal plan. The same temptation exists today. People trust horoscopes, fortune readings, or birth charts more than God’s Word. Rather than pray and wait, they live without God. Sometimes they hand every decision over to a preacher or a person who claims to prophesy. They ask, “Whom should I marry? Where should I invest? What will happen to me?” But the biblical calling of a prophet is not to satisfy people’s curiosity.
The first test of a false prophet is whether the message proves true and is fulfilled. “If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken on his own, so do not be alarmed” (Deut. 18:22). If a prediction has no truth and no fulfillment, it is false. Yet even when a prediction comes true, that alone does not prove that the speaker is a true prophet. We must still ask whether the message truly came from God.
The second test is even more important: “But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death” (Deut. 18:20). Anyone who speaks in the name of another god is clearly a false prophet. And even if someone uses God’s name, a message that goes against God’s written Word is still false.
A true prophet does not make people dependent on himself. He turns them back to God. He proclaims God’s Word and leads God’s people toward repentance and obedience. A prophecy is true only when it agrees with Scripture. If it goes against Scripture, it is false. We do not need to depend on some special prediction that sounds impressive. We already have the original and trustworthy prophetic Word—the Bible. We need to read it more and receive God’s wisdom and understanding through it.
This wisdom and understanding are available even to someone like my mother, a deaconess who had only recently learned to read Korean. She raised all six of us children in faith, with a strong assurance of salvation and deep trust in God. During the COVID pandemic, even while she was in a hospital bed, she called and proudly told me, “Pastor Bae, today I finished reading the Bible for the thirtieth time.” She knew that few things are more precious than reading God’s Word.
False teaching, lies, and fortune-telling cannot easily deceive a person who is grounded in the Bible. God’s Word shines on the path of a believer like a powerful light on a dark road. If anyone here believes in Jesus and attends church but still goes from place to place seeking fortune-tellers, I urge you to repent and turn away. Do not chase after people simply because they are said to have special spiritual power. That is not the way of faith.
성경 말씀 한두 구절이라도 반드시 붙잡고 담대하게 사십시오. 여러분을 지켜보는 젊은 자녀들이 아버지와 어머니와 할머니의 분명하고 확고한 믿음에 놀랄 만큼 확실하게 말할 수 있어야 합니다. 이 시대를 휩쓰는 거짓 영과 점술과 마귀의 미혹에 빠지지 않기를 주님의 이름으로 축복합니다.
Even if you begin with only one or two verses, hold firmly to God’s Word and live with courage. Let your children and grandchildren see a faith in their fathers, mothers, and grandparents that is clear, strong, and unmistakable. In the name of the Lord, I pray that you will not be swept away by false spirits, fortune-telling, or the deception of the devil in our time.
2. 하나님께서는 모세와 같은 선지자를 약속하셨습니다 / God Promised a Prophet Like Moses
Who is the true prophet who will fully reveal God’s heart and will? Moses gives us the answer in verses 15 and 18. “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him” (v. 15). Then God Himself says, “I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him” (v. 18). Verse 15 records the words of Moses, and verse 18 records the words of God. Together they tell us that a prophet like Moses would arise from among the Jewish people.
하나님께서는 “나와 같은 선지자”를 일으키겠다고 말씀하셨습니다. 여기서 ‘나’는 모세입니다. 그렇다면 모세와 같은 선지자는 어떤 분입니까? 이것은 성경 전체에서 선지자를 이해하는 중요한 열쇠입니다.
God promised to raise up “a prophet like me,” meaning a prophet like Moses. What would this prophet be like? The answer gives us an important key for understanding the prophets throughout the Bible.
First, this prophet is raised up by God Himself. The text says that the Lord “will raise up” a prophet. A true prophet does not appoint himself. He is not created by popularity or institutional power. He is established by God’s sovereign call. Jesus did not seek glory for Himself; He was sent by the Father. Again and again, Jesus spoke of “the Father who sent me.”
둘째, 백성 가운데서 오시는 분입니다. “너희 가운데 네 형제 중에서”라는 말씀은 그 선지자가 이스라엘 백성 가운데 일어날 것을 보여 줍니다. 하나님의 아들이신 예수님은 실제로 유대인으로 태어나 인간의 몸을 입고 우리 가운데 오셨습니다. 예수님은 우리의 연약함과 고통 가운데 들어오신 임마누엘의 하나님이십니다.
Second, this prophet comes from among the people. The words “from among you, from your fellow Israelites” show that he would arise from within Israel. Jesus, the Son of God, was born as a Jew. He took on a human body and came to live among us. He is Immanuel, God with us, who entered into our weakness and suffering.
Third, this prophet is a mediator between God and His people. At Mount Sinai, the people were afraid of God’s voice and the fire. They said to Moses, “You listen to God and tell us what He says.” God said their request was right and promised to send a prophet like Moses. Moses was the mediator of the old covenant, but Jesus Christ is the mediator of the new covenant. Moses received God’s Word and passed it on to the people. Jesus did much more than deliver the Word—He is the Word of God who became flesh and lived among us.
넷째, 하나님의 말씀을 온전히 전하는 분입니다. 하나님께서는 “내가 내 말을 그의 입에 두리니 내가 그에게 명령하는 것을 그가 무리에게 다 말하리라”(신 18:18)고 말씀하셨습니다. 아멘. 예수님은 자신의 뜻을 주장하지 않으셨습니다. 아버지께 받은 말씀을 전하시고 아버지께서 맡기신 일을 행하셨습니다.
Fourth, this prophet speaks all of God’s Word faithfully. God said, “I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him” (Deut. 18:18). Amen. Jesus did not promote His own will. He spoke the words He received from the Father and completed the work the Father gave Him.
그러므로 신명기 18장의 핵심 명령은 이것입니다. “너희는 그의 말을 들을지니라.” 하나님께서 보내신 선지자를 인정하는 가장 분명한 방법은 그를 보며 감탄하거나 존경하는 것이 아니라 그의 말을 듣고 순종하는 것입니다. 핵심은 순종입니다.
Therefore, the central command of Deuteronomy 18 is clear: “You must listen to him.” The clearest way to recognize the prophet sent by God is not merely to admire or respect him. It is to listen to his words and obey them. The heart of the matter is obedience.
3. 세례 요한은 약속된 선지자의 길을 준비했습니다 / John the Baptist Prepared the Way
The promise of Deuteronomy 18 reaches an important turning point in Matthew 3, this week’s B’rit Hadashah reading. “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near” (Matt. 3:2). After roughly four hundred years of silence following Malachi, a voice was heard in the Judean wilderness. It was John the Baptist. Wearing clothing made of camel’s hair and eating locusts and wild honey, he cried out in the wilderness. His appearance reminded the people of the Old Testament prophets, especially Elijah.
John the Baptist was a true prophet, but he did not present himself as the final Savior. “After me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry” (Matt. 3:11). Here we see the mark of a true prophet. A false prophet draws people to himself, but a true prophet leads people to Christ. A false leader makes himself look great; a true leader lifts up Jesus.
세례 요한은 물로 세례를 베풀었지만 장차 오실 분은 성령과 불로 세례를 베푸실 것이라고 증언했습니다. 요한의 물세례는 회개를 나타냈지만 예수님은 사람의 내면을 새롭게 하시고 성령을 부어 주시는 분입니다. 그러므로 세례 요한은 신명기 18장의 최종 성취가 아니라 약속된 분이 오실 길을 준비한 선지자였습니다.
John baptized with water, but he testified that the One coming after him would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. John’s baptism with water pointed to repentance. Jesus, however, renews the human heart and pours out the Holy Spirit. John, then, was not the final fulfillment of Deuteronomy 18. He was the prophet who prepared the way for the promised One.
4. 세례받으신 예수님은 하나님께서 인정하신 아들이십니다 / At His Baptism, Jesus Is Revealed as God’s Son
In Matthew 3:13, Jesus came to the Jordan River to be baptized. John tried to stop Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Why would the sinless Jesus receive a baptism of repentance? He was not baptized because He had sinned. He was baptized to identify with sinners and to obey God’s saving plan completely. Jesus stepped down into the place of sinners, and He would finally die in their place on the cross.
예수님께서 세례를 받으시고 물에서 올라오실 때 세 가지 일이 일어났습니다. 첫째, 하늘이 열렸습니다. 둘째, 하나님의 성령이 비둘기처럼 임하셨습니다. 셋째, 하늘에서 아버지의 음성이 들렸습니다. “이는 내 사랑하는 아들이요 내 기뻐하는 자라”(마 3:17).
When Jesus was baptized and came up out of the water, three things happened. First, heaven was opened. Second, the Spirit of God came down like a dove. Third, the Father’s voice came from heaven: “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased” (Matt. 3:17).
신명기 18장에서 하나님은 “내 말을 그의 입에 두겠다”고 약속하셨습니다. 마태복음 3장에서는 하나님께서 예수님을 “내 사랑하는 아들”이라고 직접 증언하십니다. 예수님은 위대한 선지자들 가운데 한 분에 불과하지 않습니다. 이 순간 하나님께서 예수님을 메시아이자 사랑하시는 아들로 분명히 인정하십니다.
In Deuteronomy 18, God promised, “I will put my words in his mouth.” In Matthew 3, God Himself testifies that Jesus is “my beloved Son.” Jesus is not merely one great prophet among many. At this moment, God openly identifies Him as the Messiah and His beloved Son.
Deuteronomy 18 looks ahead to prophets who would come after Moses. We should understand Ezekiel, Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and the other Old Testament prophets within this larger story. The Hebrew phrase for “a prophet like me” is navi kamoni. It points to the prophets who would speak God’s will throughout the Old Testament, while ultimately pointing ahead to Jesus Christ, who would bring and reveal God’s way of salvation. In this sense, Deuteronomy 18 is an important bridge between the Old and New Testaments.
The Old Testament prophets declared, “This is what the Lord says.” But none of them spoke as Jesus did: “I am willing. Be clean,” or, “Lazarus, come out!” Jesus spoke with this authority because God Himself had come among us. Jesus is a prophet, but He is far greater than a prophet. He speaks the Word of God, and He is the Word of God. He does not merely teach us God’s way; He Himself is the Way. He does not simply explain God; He shows us the Father.
5. 예수님은 보이지 않는 아버지를 보여 주신 참선지자입니다 / Jesus Shows Us the Unseen Father
우리가 54주 토라 포션 읽기를 거의 마쳐 갑니다. 주중에 요일별로 연결된 본문을 꾸준히 읽은 분들은 모세오경과 선지서와 복음서가 어떻게 이어지는지 볼 수 있습니다. 오늘 본문은 이처럼 서로 연결하여 토라 포션을 읽는 기쁨을 잘 보여 줍니다.
We are nearing the end of our fifty-four-week Torah reading cycle. Those who have faithfully followed the connected weekday readings have seen how the Torah, the Prophets, and the Gospels fit together. Today’s passages show us the special joy of reading the Torah portion in this connected way.
이제 브릿 하다샤의 본문인 요한복음 14장을 보십시오. 빌립은 예수님께 “주여 아버지를 우리에게 보여 주옵소서 그리하면 족하겠나이다”(요 14:8)라고 요청했습니다. 예수님께서 이미 설명해 주셨는데 도마가 질문하고, 이제 빌립이 또 묻습니다. “아버지를 보여 주십시오. 그러면 만족하겠습니다.” 이 요청은 인간의 오랜 갈망을 보여 줍니다.
Now turn to John 14, our B’rit Hadashah reading. Philip said to Jesus, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us” (John 14:8). Jesus had already explained so much. Thomas had asked a question, and now Philip asked another: “Just show us the Father. Then we will be satisfied.” His request expresses the deep longing of the human heart.
우리도 빌립과 같습니다. “하나님은 어떤 분입니까? 하나님을 직접 볼 수는 없습니까? 하나님의 마음을 분명하게 보여 주십시오.”
그때 예수님께서 대답하셨습니다. “나를 본 자는 아버지를 보았거늘 어찌하여 아버지를 보이라 하느냐”(요 14:9). 참으로 놀라운 말씀입니다.
We are like Philip. We ask, “What is God like? Can we see Him for ourselves? Please show us God’s heart clearly.” Jesus answered, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” (John 14:9). What an amazing statement!
이 말씀은 성부와 성자가 동일하다라는 말은 아닙니다. 성부와 성자는 구별되십니다. 그러나 예수님은 아버지의 본성과 성품과 뜻을 완전하게 나타내시는 하나님의 아들이십니다. 이제 약속의 중심이신 분이 등장하신 것입니다.
This does not mean that the Father and the Son are the same person. The Father and the Son are distinct. Yet Jesus is the Son of God who perfectly reveals the Father’s nature, character, and will. The central Person of God’s promise has now stepped into view.
모세를 비롯한 구약의 선지자들은 “여호와께서 말씀하시기를”이라고 선포했습니다. 그러나 하나님의 아들이신 예수님은 권위 있게 말씀하셨습니다. “진실로 진실로 내가 너희에게 이르노니.” “나는 길이요 진리요 생명이다.” “나를 본 자는 아버지를 보았다.” 약속의 주인공이 오신 것입니다. 바로 이 점에서 예수님은 모세와 구별되십니다.
Moses and the Old Testament prophets said, “This is what the Lord says.” But Jesus, the Son of God, spoke with His own divine authority: “Very truly I tell you.” “I am the way and the truth and the life.” “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” The One at the center of the promise had come. This is where Jesus stands apart from Moses.
모세는 하나님의 영광을 보기를 원했지만 하나님의 얼굴을 온전히 볼 수 없었습니다. 그러나 예수님은 아버지 품속에 계셨고 보이지 않는 하나님을 우리에게 나타내셨습니다.
Moses longed to see God’s glory, but he could not look fully upon God’s face. Jesus, however, came from the Father’s side and made the unseen God known to us.
Through Jesus, we learn what God is like. In Jesus healing the sick, we see God’s compassion. In Jesus forgiving sinners, we see God’s grace. In Jesus confronting hypocrisy and injustice, we see God’s holiness. In Jesus washing His disciples’ feet, we see God’s humility. In Jesus giving Himself on the cross, we see God’s love. Amen.
하나님을 알고 싶다면 예수님을 바라보아야 합니다. 하나님의 뜻을 알고 싶다면 예수님의 말씀을 들어야 합니다. 예수님은 보이지 않는 아버지를 보여 주신 참된 선지자이십니다. 아멘.
If we want to know God, we must look to Jesus. If we want to know God’s will, we must listen to Jesus. He is the true Prophet who shows us the unseen Father. Amen.
6. 약속된 선지자의 말씀을 듣는 것이 생명과 죽음을 결정합니다 / Listening to the Promised Prophet Is a Matter of Life and Death
Let us read Deuteronomy 18:19 together: “I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name.” God speaks with great seriousness. Listening to the prophet like Moses is not optional. His words are not merely good advice that we may accept or reject as we please. Our response is a matter of life and death, of the blessing that follows obedience to God and the judgment that follows disobedience. This is one of the major truths we must remember in Deuteronomy.
사람들은 예수님을 훌륭한 스승으로 존경하면서도 그분의 말씀을 따르지 않을 수 있습니다. 예수님의 기적은 좋아하면서 회개하라는 말씀은 거부할 수 있습니다. 위로의 말씀은 받아들이면서 자기 십자가를 지라는 말씀은 외면할 수 있습니다. 예수님의 말씀을 그저 자신의 선택 사항으로 여기며 살아갑니다.
People may respect Jesus as a great teacher and still refuse to follow His words. They may love His miracles but reject His call to repent. They may welcome His words of comfort but turn away from His command to take up the cross. They treat the words of Jesus as one choice among many and simply live as they please.
그러나 신명기 18장 15절은 “너희는 그의 말을 들으라”고 합니다. 성경에서 ‘듣는다’는 것은 단지 소리를 귀로 듣는 것 이상입니다. 히브리적 의미에서 듣는다는 것은 받아들이고 순종하는 것입니다.
But Deuteronomy 18:15 says, “You must listen to him.” In the Bible, listening means more than hearing a sound with our ears. In the Hebrew understanding, to listen is to receive the word and obey it.
If we have heard Jesus say, “Love your enemies,” then we must love our enemies. If we have heard Him tell us to forgive, then we must forgive. If we have heard Him say, “Seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness,” then we must change our priorities. If we have heard Him call us to deny ourselves and take up our cross, then we must lay down our self-centered way of life. You may be thinking, “Pastor, how can we possibly do all of that?”
우리는 예수님의 말씀을 듣지 않으면서 예수님을 믿는다고 말할 수 없습니다. 그렇지 않습니까? 믿음은 말씀을 듣는 데서 시작되고 순종을 통해 열매를 맺습니다. 아직 열매가 보이지 않는다고 괴로워하지 마십시오. 우리에게는 예수님의 약속이 있습니다.
We cannot honestly say that we believe in Jesus while refusing to listen to Him. Isn’t that true? Faith begins by hearing the Word, and it bears fruit through obedience. Yet do not lose heart if you do not see all the fruit yet. Jesus has given us a promise.
7. 예수님은 성령을 보내어 계속 말씀하십니다 / Jesus Continues to Speak Through the Holy Spirit
When Jesus told His disciples that He would leave them, they were afraid. If Jesus, the promised Prophet, went away, who would teach and guide them? In John 14, Jesus promised to send another Advocate: “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth” (John 14:16-17).
‘보혜사’는 우리 곁에 오셔서 돕고 위로하고 변호하시는 분이라는 뜻입니다. 예수님은 육체로는 제자들을 떠나시지만 성령을 통해 그들을 고아처럼 버려두지 않겠다고 약속하셨습니다(요 14:18). 성령은 예수 그리스도를 증언하고 예수님의 말씀을 기억나게 하며, 우리가 그 말씀을 깨닫고 순종하도록 도우십니다.
The word Advocate describes One who comes alongside us to help, comfort, and speak for us. Although Jesus would no longer remain with the disciples in the same physical way, He promised that He would not leave them as orphans (John 14:18). The Holy Spirit bears witness to Jesus Christ, brings Jesus’ words to our minds, and helps us understand and obey them.
그러므로 신명기 18장의 약속은 세 단계로 이어집니다. 첫째, 하나님께서 모세와 같은 선지자를 보내겠다고 약속하셨습니다. 둘째, 세례 요한이 회개를 외치며 그분의 길을 준비했습니다. 셋째, 예수님께서 오셔서 아버지를 나타내시고 성령을 보내어 그 말씀이 우리 안에 거하게 하셨습니다.
The promise of Deuteronomy 18, then, unfolds in three stages. First, God promised to send a prophet like Moses. Second, John the Baptist prepared the way by calling people to repentance. Third, Jesus came, revealed the Father, and sent the Holy Spirit so that His Word might live in us.
성령으로 충만한 사람은 예수님의 말씀을 기억하고 사랑하며 순종합니다. 예수님께서는 “너희가 나를 사랑하면 나의 계명을 지키리라”(요 14:15)고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님을 사랑한다는 가장 분명한 증거는 감정적인 고백만이 아니라 말씀에 대한 순종입니다.
A person filled with the Holy Spirit remembers, loves, and obeys the words of Jesus. Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15). The clearest evidence that we love Jesus is not an emotional confession alone. It is obedience to His Word.
맺는말: 너희는 그의 말을 들으라 / Conclusion: Listen to Him
사랑하는 성도 여러분, 토라 포션 제48주차 ‘쇼프팀’은 정의로운 재판장, 올바른 왕, 충성된 제사장과 참된 선지자를 요구합니다. 그러나 이스라엘의 역사는 인간 지도자의 한계를 보여 주었습니다. 재판관은 불의를 행했고, 왕은 교만해졌으며, 제사장은 타락했고, 선지자는 거짓을 말했습니다.
Dear brothers and sisters, the forty-eighth Torah portion, Shoftim, calls for fair judges, righteous kings, faithful priests, and true prophets. Yet Israel’s history reveals the limits of human leaders. Judges acted unjustly. Kings became proud. Priests became corrupt. Prophets spoke lies.
그러나 하나님은 자신의 약속을 포기하지 않으셨습니다. 하나님께서는 모세와 같은 선지자이면서 모세보다 크신 분을 보내셨습니다. 우리의 구세주 예수 그리스도, 우리의 대제사장이신 주 예수 그리스도, 참된 선지자이신 예수 그리스도를 찬양합니다.
But God did not abandon His promise. He sent the Prophet like Moses, yet One far greater than Moses. We praise Jesus Christ, our Savior. We praise the Lord Jesus Christ, our great High Priest. We praise Jesus Christ, the true Prophet.
그러므로 오늘 우리에게 주시는 하나님의 명령은 분명합니다. “너희는 그의 말을 들을지니라.”
Therefore, God’s command to us today is clear: “You must listen to him.”
첫째, 세상의 목소리보다 예수님의 말씀을 들으십시오.
둘째, 두려움의 목소리보다 예수님의 약속을 들으십시오.
셋째, 거짓 선지자의 말보다 성경에 기록된 예수님의 말씀을 들으십시오.
First, listen to the words of Jesus above the voices of the world.
Second, listen to the promises of Jesus above the voice of fear.
Third, listen to the words of Jesus written in Scripture above the words of false prophets.
예수님 자신이 우리의 미래이십니다. 예수님은 길을 설명하는 데 그치지 않고 친히 우리의 길이 되십니다. 약속된 선지자이시며 하나님의 아들이신 예수 그리스도의 말씀을 듣고, 성령의 도우심으로 그 말씀에 순종하는 우리가 되기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다. 아멘.
Jesus Himself is our future. He does not merely explain the way; He is the Way for us. May we listen to Jesus Christ, the promised Prophet and the Son of God, and may the Holy Spirit help us obey His Word. I pray this for all of us in the name of the Lord. Amen.
