Today's Devotional Meditation (October 18)
Yesan Sujeong Church
<Title: God Calls Us in the Wilderness and Equips Us by the Holy Spirit>
<Today's Scripture | Hosea 2:14 (NIV)>
“Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her.”
<Oswald Chambers' Meditation>
“The people God sends to build His kingdom are all ordinary people, but they are wholly devoted through the work of the Holy Spirit.”
<Meditation : God Calls Us in the Wilderness and Equips Us by the Holy Spirit>
Whom does God call to build His kingdom? He does not call only those who possess outstanding abilities, exceptional talents, or impressive achievements in the eyes of the world. God calls ordinary people and transforms them through the work of the Holy Spirit, equipping them to accomplish His purposes.
In Hosea 2:14, God promises to lead Israel, who had turned away from Him to worship idols, into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her. The wilderness is not merely a place of suffering and deprivation. It is also a place where God meets His people again, restores their hearts, and renews their relationship with Him.
We, too, sometimes find ourselves in a wilderness season. Our plans may fail, the things we have depended on may collapse, and we may become painfully aware of our own weaknesses. Yet such a season does not necessarily mean that we have failed. Even in the wilderness, God speaks to us and turns our hearts back to Him when we have been distracted by the voices of the world.
Why does God restore us? His purpose is not simply to make our lives comfortable. He restores our relationship with Him so that He may prepare us to serve His kingdom.
Third John 1:7 reminds us that those who proclaim the gospel go out for the sake of Christ's name. Serving God's kingdom is not about relying on human ability or seeking recognition from the world. It is about dedicating ourselves to the Lord and living for His name.
“It was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans.” (3 John 1:7, NIV)
God is not necessarily looking for people with extraordinary abilities. He seeks those who listen to His voice, obey the leading of the Holy Spirit, and willingly offer their lives for the sake of His name. When ordinary people devote themselves fully to God, He works through their lives to accomplish His purposes.
Therefore, our primary concern today should not be how remarkable we are, but how open our hearts are before God and how willing we are to obey the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Are you going through a wilderness season right now? Rather than losing heart, listen carefully to God's voice. He not only comforts and restores you but also prepares you for the work He intends to accomplish through you.
May we entrust ourselves fully to the Lord today, knowing that He calls ordinary people like us, renews us through the Holy Spirit, and uses our lives to build His kingdom.
