The Samaritans in today’s passage hear Jesus’ words and quickly believe. In contrast, the orthodox Jews - those who take pride in their faith in God - do not fully believe in Jesus, even after witnessing many signs. Both then and now, the so-called holy people of God should take today’s message as a lesson.
Unlike the previous Gospels, the Gospel of John does not list Jesus’ miraculous signs one by one. Instead, it includes only the signs related to His words. Therefore, the Gospel of John emphasizes the Word. The Samaritans hear the Word and believe in
Jesus.
The best kind of faith is believing by reading and hearing the Word.
