<오늘의 결단>
When God's Will Becomes My Will
For a tree to bear abundant fruit, its roots must first reach the source of life. No matter how flourishing its branches may appear, a tree cannot continue to bear fruit if its roots dry up. As Jacob blessed his son Joseph near the end of his life, he described him as a fruitful vine growing beside a spring. Joseph's life was far from easy. He was hated by his brothers, sold into slavery in Egypt, and imprisoned because of a false accusation. Yet even through his suffering, he did not abandon God. In time, he became God's instrument to preserve the lives of many people.
Our lives are no different. God's purpose in calling us is not simply to help us succeed in the world or accumulate possessions. He calls us to walk with Him, grow in His character, and allow His purposes to be fulfilled through our lives. Therefore, the most important question is not how much we have accomplished, but whose will we are following.
Oswald Chambers reminds us that we must not be content merely to ask God to make us holy. The deeper question is whether we are willing to make God's will our own. We may ask God to bless our plans while finding it difficult to surrender those plans and obey Him. When things go our way, we readily call it God's grace. But when He leads us along an unexpected path, we may quickly become discouraged.
Yet Scripture clearly declares, “It is God's will that you should be sanctified.” (1 Thessalonians 4:3, NIV) God desires more than outward religious activity. He wants us to become holy people whose thoughts, words, and actions reflect His character. Holiness does not mean withdrawing from the world and building a wall around ourselves. It means choosing God's will even while living in the world. It means putting His Word above our desires, following His love rather than our emotions, and submitting to His guidance instead of insisting on our own way.
Just as Joseph's branches reached over the wall, the lives of those who make God's will their own will also bear the fruit of faith. Such fruit does not always appear as worldly success or visible achievement. It may be seen in a faith that trusts God through suffering, a heart that refuses to repay evil for evil, or a love that preserves and strengthens the lives of others.
Today, we need to ask ourselves: “Am I merely asking God to fulfill my will, or am I willing to become someone through whom His will is fulfilled?”
God desires to make our lives holy and fruitful. What we need, then, is the faith to embrace His will willingly. When we surrender our own desires and make God's will our own, our lives will grow like a fruitful vine rooted beside a spring, bearing fruit that brings life and blessing to others.
<Today's Commitment>
Lord, do not let me settle for merely asking You to fulfill my desires. Teach me to embrace Your will as my own and to walk in obedience. Help my life take deep root in You, bearing abundant fruit of holiness and sharing the life of Christ with others.
