A person who truly believes in God does not do so out of religious habit but knows that God is the true, living God who knows and leads them. The Jews in this passage claim to believe in God and study His Word, yet they do not love Him. If they truly loved God, they would read His Word with excitement and seek to follow it.
Jesus came in accordance with the Father's Word. However, the Jews who claim to study God's Word refuse to acknowledge Him.
“For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me.” Jesus’ conclusion is that if they had truly believed Moses, they would have believed in Him.
Applying Jesus’ words to ourselves: “If you do not believe the Scriptures, how can you believe in Jesus?”
