1. Introduction

How exactly should one repent for the sins of idolatry? The Bible defines the sin of idolatry as violating the First and Second Commandments. However, in Korea, the sins of idolatry are typically categorized into four types: the sin of ancestor worship, the sin of serving Buddha and Buddhism, the sin of serving shamans and fortune-tellers, and the sin of serving superstitions and false gods. While we cannot know who established this classification, those seeking repentance categorize and repent accordingly. Yet, upon carefully examining this classification, one cannot help but think that a truly wise person must have distinguished these sins of idolatry. This is because the sins of idolatry and the resulting work of evil spirits are clearly and systematically organized. Today, I want to delve deeper into how to repent specifically for the sin of believing in and following shamans and fortune-tellers.

2. What does the Bible say about dealing with shamans and fortune-tellers?

What does the Bible say about shamans and fortune-tellers?

First, regarding shamans and fortune-tellers themselves, it speaks in two ways. First, it states that one must not have a medium or a spiritist, an enchanter or a necromancer, a diviner or a sorcerer, a charmer or a wizard, or a necromancer (Deut. 18:10-11). Second, it commands that they must not be spared (Ex. 22:18) and must be stoned to death (Lev. 20:27).

Deut. 18:10-11 You shall not allow a sorcerer to live.

Exod. 22:18 You shall not let a sorceress live.

Lev 20:27 A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist must be put to death. You are to stone them to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Second, what does Scripture say about those who believe in and follow mediums and diviners? The Bible commands us not to believe in mediums and diviners, nor to follow them and defile ourselves (Lev 19:31).

Lev 19:31 You shall not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.

Third, what consequences follow if one nevertheless believes in and follows shamans and fortune-tellers? What happens to those who trust in them? The Bible speaks of two outcomes. First, it says they will incur God's wrath and be cut off from their faith community (Lev 20:6). This means either being expelled from the community of faith or facing death. A prime example is Saul, the first king of the Old Testament. He sought out the medium at Endor to inquire about the outcome of a battle. God declared that because of this, He would put an end to his kingdom and transfer it to David (1 Chronicles 10:13-14). And in the New Testament, the Apostle John directly quotes the resurrected Lord's words, stating that such people will either be thrown into the lake of fire or cast out into the outer darkness (Rev 21:8, 22:15).

Leviticus 20:6 I will set My face against the one who consults mediums and spiritists, and will cut him off from among his people.

1 Chronicles 10:13-14 Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the Lord’s command. He even consulted a medium for guidance, 14 but he did not inquire of the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and transferred the kingdom to David son of Jesse.

Rev 21:8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.

Rev 22:15 But outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

3. What characteristics does the sin of serving shamans and diviners possess when compared to other sins of idolatry?

The sin of serving shamans and diviners is, in fact, a sin with deeper roots and one that is significantly more strongly dominated by powerful spirits compared to the other three types of idolatry. This is because no other sin of idolatry involves such powerful demonic possession and activity. In other words, sins like sacrificial offerings, worshiping Buddha, or shamanism all involve some intermediary. Sacrifices have a sacrificial priest, and Buddha has a monk. A shaman, however, is possessed by spirits to perform shamanic acts. The case of a sacrificial priest or monk being possessed to perform sacrifices or worship Buddhism is quite different from a shaman receiving a spirit descent to perform shamanic acts. Furthermore, while ancestral rites are performed by the family's chief priest, shamans do not merely oversee a single village; some shamans oversee entire regions and nations. This demonstrates that the spiritual power received by a shaman is quite substantial. Therefore, the sin of a shaman is so powerful that the spirits that acted through them when they were served are greater and more powerful than those associated with other sins of idol worship.

Moreover, the evil spirits (serpents) that enter due to the sin of serving shamans and fortune-tellers differ significantly from those that enter when other idolatrous sins are committed. In other words, the form of the curse that manifests is different. For example, the symptoms that appear in a person when the sin of ancestor worship is committed usually manifest in the form of disease. Thus, illnesses like infertility, dementia, stomach ailments, or autism manifest. When one commits the sin of superstition and false gods, a curse that blocks one's path appears. In other words, a curse hindering our prosperity and blocking our way manifests. However, when one commits the sin of serving shamans and fortune-tellers, symptoms usually appear in the mental and character aspects. For example, if one diligently serves shamans and fortune-tellers, traits like hot-tempered rage, hatred, jealousy, cruelty, and violence emerge in that person's character. Therefore, if one has parents who served shamans and fortune-tellers, it can be understood that their descendants will produce individuals with character flaws.

4. What spirits (serpents) operate when one commits the sin of serving shamans and fortune-tellers?

When one commits the sin of serving shamans and fortune-tellers, they fall under the dominion of the spirit residing within the shaman or fortune-teller. And when under that spirit's dominion, one becomes subject to attacks from the evil spirits that follow. This is because when one serves a shaman or fortune-teller, the lesser spirits beneath them come to dwell within the person's body and surrounding environment. So, if someone commits the sin of diligently serving a shaman or fortune-teller, what kinds of spirits typically follow and work within that person?

Fundamentally, spirits of bloodlust and anger, pride, falsehood, depression, separation, luxury, revelry, envy and jealousy, and poverty enter. Then, spirits derived from these follow and enter as well. These include the spirit of unbelief, the spirit of rebellion, the spirit of opposition, the spirit of murder, the spirit of killing, the spirit of suicide, the spirit of injustice, the spirit of division (the spirit that causes separation), the spirit of strife, the spirit of fighting, the spirit of violence, the spirit of loneliness, and the spirit of worry and anxiety. Therefore, if someone says they have depression and thoughts of suicide stemming from it, you must understand they are undoubtedly under the influence of the spirit of a shaman or fortune-teller.

This signifies that among their ancestors, someone on the paternal side had close ties to shamans and fortune-tellers. And from the maternal side, it means there were shamans and fortune-tellers. So, it is highly likely that the mother, maternal grandmother, great-grandmother, or great-great-grandmother was a shaman. If not, it is very likely that the mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, or great-great-grandmother on the paternal side were very close to shamans and fortune-tellers. Therefore, to rid yourself of depression and prevent suicidal thoughts, you must repent for the sins committed by your ancestors, specifically the sin of serving shamans and fortune-tellers or engaging in their practices. Then, one day, the depressive feelings will naturally disappear, and the suicidal thoughts will vanish.

5. How to Repent for the Sins of Shamans and Fortune-Tellers?

Therefore, if a family history involves excessive bloodthirstiness and anger, frequent murders, or many divorces and affairs, one must repent more deeply for the sin of idol worship, specifically the sin of serving shamans and fortune-tellers. This is because such human traits stem from ancestors who were shamans and fortune-tellers or ancestors who were close to them. Therefore, to repent the sins of shamans and fortune-tellers, following the sequence and procedure below will lead to more effective repentance.

First, examine whether members of your family share common character or temperamental issues. That is, if your family is filled with hot-tempered rage, pride, and also lewdness and a tendency to lie, you must first repent the sins of shamans and fortune-tellers.

Second, even though I did not personally serve shamans or fortune-tellers, I repent for the sins of shamans and fortune-tellers from my paternal ancestors from the first to fourth generations, my maternal ancestors from the first to fourth generations, and my in-laws from the first to fourth generations.

Third, I must repent for the sin of accepting into my own body the spirits that follow—the lesser spirits (serpents)—so that they may depart from my body. For example, repent that you lived unaware that what you thought was a family history of hot-tempered anger was actually an attack by evil spirits that entered through serving shamans and fortune-tellers, and pray for these spirits to be cast out.

Fourth, pray for the Lord's precious blood to be poured over the places where the demons and snakes have departed.

Fifth, if it is difficult to cast out the spirits of shamans and fortune-tellers and the spirits under them alone, receive deliverance ministry from powerful servants of the Lord.

6. Conclusion

The sin of shamans and fortune-tellers is among the oldest and most powerful forms of idol worship, involving potent spirits. Indeed, no other nation or people in the world possesses the spiritual power to dance barefoot on a sharp saw blade like ours. This reflects how deeply rooted and formidable the forces within Korea's shamans have become. Consequently, this has become deeply ingrained in the character and temperament of families. For example, if a household frequently has members, besides the wife, engaging in extramarital affairs and maintaining two separate households, it is safe to assume that among their ancestors, there was either a shaman or a family that served shamans very well.

Therefore, we must realize that what we previously thought was simply our family's tradition was actually formed by evil spirits entering the family due to the sin of serving shamans and fortune-tellers. We must quickly repent of this sin of serving shamans and fortune-tellers. Only then can we cease the sins of lust, stop the rage of bloodlust, and eliminate depression from our family. This is how we can prevent fraudsters from emerging in the family. It also prevents suicides and stops fights and quarrels from arising among the children. This is the very essence of repentance.

1. 들어가며

우상 숭배의 죄들은 과연 어떻게 회개해야 하는가? 성경에서 말하는 우상 숭배의 죄는 제1계명과 제2계명을 어긴 것을 가리킨다. 그런데 우리나라의 경우 우상 숭배의 죄에는 보통 4가지가 있다. 조상 숭배의 죄, 부처와 불교를 섬긴 죄, 무당과 점쟁이를 섬긴 죄, 미신과 잡신을 섬긴 죄가 있다. 누가 그렇게 정했는지를 알 수는 없지만 회개를 하는 사람들은 그렇게 분류하고 회개하고 있다. 그런데 이러한 분류를 찬찬히 뜯어 놓고 보면 정말 지혜로운 분이 우상 숭배의 죄를 구분해 놓은 것이 아닌가 생각이 된다. 왜냐하면 우상 숭배의 죄와 그것에 따라 파생되는 악한 영들의 역사가 일목요연하게 정리가 되기 때문이다. 오늘은 이것들 중에 무당과 점쟁이를 믿고 따른 죄를 어떻게 회개할 것인지 이 부분에 대해 좀 더 자세히 다뤄보고자 한다.

2. 성경에서는 무당과 점쟁이에 대해서 어떻게 하라고 했는가?

성경에서는 무당과 점쟁이에 대해 무엇이라고 말씀하고 있는가?

첫째, 무당과 점쟁이 자체에 대해서는 다음과 같이 2가지로 말씀하신다. 첫째로, 무당이나 점쟁이, 진언자나 신접한 자, 박수, 초혼자 등을 있게 해서는 안 된다고 말하고 있다(신18:10~11). 그리고 둘째, 그들을 살려두지 말며(출22:18), 그들을 반드시 돌로 쳐서 죽이라고 말씀하고 있다(레20:27)

신18:10-11 그의 아들이나 딸을 불 가운데로 지나게 하는 자나 점쟁이나 길흉을 말하는 자나 요술하는 자나 무당이나 11 진언자나 신접자나 박수나 초혼자를 너희 가운데에 용납하지 말라

출22:18 너는 무당을 살려두지 말라

레20:27 남자나 여자가 접신하거나 박수무당이 되거든 반드시 죽일지니 곧 돌로 그를 치라 그들의 피가 자기들에게로 돌아가리라

둘째, 무당과 점쟁이를 믿고 따르는 자들에게 대해서 무엇이라고 말씀하고 있는가? 성경은 무당과 점쟁이를 믿지 말며, 그들을 추종하여서 자신을 더럽게 해서는 안 된다고 말씀하고 있다(레19:31)

레19:31 너희는 신접한 자와 박수를 믿지 말며 그들을 추종하여 스스로 더럽히지 말라 나는 너희 하나님 여호와이니라

셋째, 그럼에도 불구하고 무당과 점쟁이를 믿고 따르게 되면 어떤 결과가 주어지는가? 무당과 점쟁이를 믿고 따르면 어떤 일이 일어나게 되는 것인가? 성경은 2가지로 말씀하신다. 첫째는 하나님의 진노를 받아서 자기가 속한 믿음으로 공동체에서 끊어지게 된다고 말씀하신다(레20:6). 이는 자신이 믿음의 공동체로부터 추방당하든지 자신이 죽게 된다는 것을 의미한다. 대표적인 예로, 구약의 초대왕 사울의 경우가 그렇다. 그는 엔돌의 신접한 여인을 찾아서 전쟁의 운명에 대해 물었다고 하나님께서 그를 죽이시고 그의 나라를 다윗에게 넘겨준 것이라고 말씀하고 있다(대상10:13~14). 그리고 신약성경에서 사도 요한은 부활하신 주님의 말씀을 직접적으로 인용하여 그런 자들은 불못에 떨어지든지 바깥 어두운데 쫓겨나게 될 것이라고 말씀하고 있다(계21:8, 22:15)

레20:6 접신한 자와 박수무당을 음란하게 따르는 자에게는 내가 진노하여 그를 그의 백성 중에서 끊으리니

대상10:13-14 사울이 죽은 것은 여호와께 범죄하였기 때문이라 그가 여호와의 말씀을 지키지 아니하고 또 신접한 자에게 가르치기를 청하고 14 여호와께 묻지 아니하였으므로 여호와께서 그를 죽이시고 그 나라를 이새의 아들 다윗에게 넘겨 주셨더라

계21:8 그러나 두려워하는 자들과 믿지 아니하는 자들과 흉악한 자들과 살인자들과 음행하는 자들과 점술가들과 우상 숭배자들과 거짓말하는 모든 자들은 불과 유황으로 타는 못에 던져지리니 이것이 둘째 사망이라

계22:15 개들과 점술가들과 음행하는 자들과 살인자들과 우상 숭배자들과 및 거짓말을 좋아하며 지어내는 자는 다 성 밖에 있으리라

3. 무당과 점쟁이의 죄는 다른 우상 숭배의 죄들과 비교했을 때 어떤 특성을 가지고 있는가?

무당과 점쟁이를 섬긴 죄는 사실 다른 3가지의 우상 숭배의 죄에 비해 뿌리가 깊고 상당히 강력한 영들의 지배를 받는 죄라고 할 수 있다. 왜냐하면 그 어떤 우상 숭배의 죄들도 이렇게 강력하게 귀신이 들려 역사하는 경우는 없기 때문이다. 다시 말해, 제사나 부처의 죄나 무당의 죄는 다 중간에 어떤 매개자가 있다. 제사에는 제주가 있고, 부처에는 스님이 있다. 그리고 무당은 무당 자신이 귀신들려서 무당의 일을 한다. 제주나 스님이 귀신이 들려 제사를 드리거나 불교를 숭배하는 경우는 무당이 신내림을 받아 무당의 일을 하는 것과는 상당히 차이가 난다. 그리고 제사의 경우는 그 집안의 제주가 제사를 지내지만, 무당의 경우는 한 마을만을 주관하지 않고 한 지역과 나라를 주관하는 무당도 있기 때문에, 무당이 받은 영의 세력은 상당히 크다는 것을 알 수 있다. 그러므로 무당의 죄는 너무나 강력해서 무당을 섬길 때에 역사했던 귀신은 다른 우상 숭배의 죄보다도 더 크고 권세가 세다는 것을 알 수 있다.

그리고 무당과 점쟁이를 섬김으로 지은 죄 때문에 들어오는 악한 영들(뱀들)은 다른 우상 숭배의 죄를 지었을 때에 들어온 영들과도 상당히 차이가 난다. 다시 말해 역사하는 저주의 형태가 다르다는 것이다. 예를 들어, 조상 숭배의 죄를 지었을 때 사람에게 나타나는 증상은 보통 질병의 형태로 나타난다. 그래서 불임, 치매, 위장병, 자폐아 등의 질병이 나타난다. 그리고 미신 잡신의 죄를 지었을 때에는 사람의 가는 길을 막는 저주가 나타난다. 다시 말해 우리가 형통케 되는 것을 방해하고 길을 막는 저주가 나타난다. 그런데 무당과 점쟁이의 죄를 짓게 되면 보통 정신적인 측면과 성품적인 측면에서 증상이 나타나기 때문이다. 예를 들어, 무당과 점쟁이를 잘 섬기게 되면, 그 사람의 성품에게서 혈기 분노와 미움(증오), 시기 질투와 잔인성과 폭력성이 나타나기 때문이다. 그러므로 무당과 점쟁이를 섬긴 부모를 둔 경우라면, 그의 후손들에게서 성품적인 결함을 가진 자가 나온다는 것을 알 수 있다.

4. 무당과 점쟁이를 섬기는 죄를 지었을 때에 어떤 영들(뱀들)이 역사하는가?

무당과 점쟁이를 섬기는 죄를 지었을 때에는 무당과 점쟁이 속에 들어 있는 영의 지배를 받는다. 그리고 그 영의 지배를 받게 될 때에 뒤따라오는 악한 영들의 공격을 받게 된다. 무당과 점쟁이를 섬겼을 때에는 그 밑의 작은 영들이 사람의 몸속과 주변 환경에 머물게 되기 때문이다. 그렇다면, 누군가가 무당과 점쟁이를 잘 섬기는 죄를 범했다면 보통 어떤 영들이 뒤따라서 사람에게 역사하는가?

기본적으로는 혈기 분노의 영, 교만의 영, 거짓의 영, 우울의 영, 분리의 영, 사치의 영, 유흥의 영, 시기 질투의 영, 가난의 영 등이 들어온다. 그러면 뒤따라서 또 그것에 파생되는 영들이 따라 들어온다. 이러한 영들에는 불신앙의 영, 거역의 영, 대적하는 영, 살인의 영, 살생의 영, 자살의 영, 억울하게 하는 영, 분열하게 하는 영(나뉘게 하는 영), 다투게 하는 영, 싸움하게 하는 영, 폭력의 영, 외로움의 영, 근심 걱정의 영 등이 있다. 그러므로 내게서 우울증이 있고 그것에 따라 자살하고픈 생각이 든다고 한다면 그에게는 틀림없이 무당 점쟁이의 영의 영향하에 있다는 것을 알아야 한다.

이는 그의 조상들 중에 누군가가 친가 쪽에서 볼 때에는 무당과 점쟁이를 가까이 했던 사람이 있었다는 것을 의미한다. 그리고 외가 쪽에서 볼 때에는 무당과 점쟁이가 있었다는 것을 의미한다. 그러니까 어머니나 외할머니, 증조 외할머니와 고조 외할머니가 무당이었을 가능성이 높다. 아니라면 친가 쪽의 어머니와 할머니, 증조 할머니와 고조 할머니가 무당과 점쟁이와 아주 가까이 지냈을 가능성이 매우 높다. 그러므로 자기에게서 우울증이 떠나가게 하고 자살하고픈 마음이 들지 않게 하려면 조상들이 지은 죄들 가운데 무당 점쟁이를 섬기거나 무당 점쟁이의 일을 한 죄를 회개해야 한다. 그러면 어느 날 자연스럽게 우울한 감정이 사라지고, 자살하고픈 생각도 사라지게 된다.

5. 무당과 점쟁이의 죄를 어떻게 회개할 것인가?

그러므로 어떤 집안의 내력이 혈기 분노가 많다든지, 살인이 많이 일어난다든지, 이혼이나 바람피우는 일이 많은 경우에는 우상 숭배의 죄들 가운데 무당 점쟁이를 섬긴 죄를 더 많이 회개해야 한다. 왜냐하면 사람의 이러한 성질이 조상들 중에 무당과 점쟁이가 있었거나 그들을 가까이 한 조상이 있었기 때문이다. 그러므로 무당과 점쟁이의 죄를 회개하려면 아래와 같은 순서와 절차로서 회개한다면 더 효과적으로 회개할 수가 있을 것이다.

첫째, 자기 가문의 사람들 중에 성품적인 문제나 기질적인 문제를 공통적으로 갖고 있는가를 살핀다. 즉 자기 가문이 혈기 분노가 가득하거나 교만하고, 또한 음란하고 거짓말을 잘 하는 가문이라면 우선 무당과 점쟁이의 죄를 회개해야 하는 것이다.

둘째, 내가 무당과 점쟁이를 섬기지 않았어도 내 조상들로서 친가 1대에서 4대까지, 외가 1대에서 4대까지, 시가 1대에서 4대까지의 무당과 점쟁이의 죄를 회개하는 것이다.

셋째, 무당과 점쟁이의 영 때문에 뒤따라오는 작은 영들(뱀들)이 내 몸에서 떠나갈 수 있도록 그 영들을 자기의 몸속에 받아들인 죄를 회개해야 한다. 예를 들어 혈기 분노가 가문의 내력인 줄 알았는데 알고 보니 무당과 점쟁이를 섬겨서 들어온 악한 영들의 공격인 줄을 모르고 살았음을 회개하고, 이 영들을 내보내 달라고 기도하는 것이다.

넷째, 귀신과 뱀들이 떠나간 자리에 주님의 보혈을 부어 달라고 기도한다.

다섯째, 혼자 무당과 점쟁이의 영과 그 밑에 있는 영들을 내보기가 어렵다면 권세있는 주의 종들로부터 축사 사역을 받는다.

6. 나오며

무당과 점쟁이의 죄는 우상 숭배의 죄들 중에서도 제일 오래 되었고 강력한 영들이 역사하는 우상 숭배의 죄다. 사실 전 세계 가운데 날카로운 작두 위를 맨발로 올라가 춤을 출 수 있는 영력을 가진 나라와 민족은 우리나라와 우리 민족 뿐이기 때문이다. 그만큼 오래되었고 큰 세력이 우리나라의 무당들 속에 들어 있는 것이다. 그러므로 이것으로 말미암아 가문의 성품과 기질의 내력으로 고착되어 있는 것이 상당하다. 예를 들어, 그 집안에 부인 이외에 바람을 피워 두 집 살림을 하는 가정이 많다면 그 윗대의 조상들 중에 반드시 무당이 있거나 무당을 아주 잘 섬겼던 집안이라고 보면 된다.

그러므로 우리가 그동안에는 우리 가문의 가풍이 그랬다고 생각했던 것이 사실은 무당과 점쟁이를 섬긴 죄로 말미암아 악한 영들이 들어와 가문의 성품과 기질을 형성했다는 것을 알고 빨리 무당과 점쟁이를 섬긴 죄를 회개해야 한다. 그래야 음란의 죄들을 그칠 수가 있고, 혈기 분노를 그칠 수가 있고, 우울증을 앓는 사람이 없어질 수 있는 것이다. 사기꾼이 더이상 가문에서 나오지 않게 할 수 있는 것이다. 그리고 자살하는 사람이 나오지 않고, 자식들 사이에서 싸움 다툼이 더이상 일어나지 않는 것이다. 이것이 바로 회개의 실제인 것이다.
