Revelation 2:8~11 - To the Church in Smyrna, Tribulation/Persecution/Martyrdom, Receiving Only Praise from Jesus

Revelation 2:9 - I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan

<Revelation> 2:9 - I know your afflictions and your poverty--yet you are rich! I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.(NIV); I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.(KJV); "I know about your suffering and your poverty - but you are rich! I know the blasphemy of those opposing you. They say they are Jews, but they are not, because their synagogue belongs to Satan.(New Living Translation)

○ Most of the Jews living in Smyrna slandered and persecuted the Church in Smyrna. They claimed as they were Jews, but in reality they were not good Jews but wicked (or evil) Jews who were sons of Satan belonging to a synagogue of Satan (the devil). If they were good Jews, they would have welcomed, worshiped, and glorified Jesus Christ as King and Messiah.

○ The evil Jews appear from <Numbers> 16:1~36. The supreme legal court of Judaism as Sanhedrin in the New Testament was the Council or community or assembly in the Old Testament. Korah, Dathan and Abiram, along with 250 Israelite leaders, the famous members of the Council, rose up against Moses. These were the wicked Jews who opposed Moses and Aaron, who escaped from Egypt and entered the land of Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey, with the guiding of LORD God. In the end, LORD God split the earth, buried the wicked Jews alive, and removed them from the assembly.

○ In <Matthew> 13:37~40, Jesus said, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil.”

○ In <John> 8:31~59, to the wicked Jews who claimed that “we are Abraham’s descendants, and the only Father we have is God himself,” Jesus said, “If you were Abraham's children, then you would do what Abraham did. You are doing the works of your own father. If God were your Father, you would love me.“, and said, "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires.“.

○ The father of the wicked is Satan (or devil). As I already mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_36>~<Bible Matrix ⑦_44>, titled as, “What and who is the dragon, ancient serpent, devil, or Satan?, at this time, in a word, Satan is the same meaning of <Revelation> 20:2, it reads, “He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan”. And in <Revelation> 20:10, “The devil will be thrown into the lake of burning sulfur”.

○ Thus, the father of the wicked Jews is Satan. Because they were born of the devil, they rejected and persecuted Jesus Christ, and they persecuted the church in Smyrna to kill just as they killed Jesus by crucifixion. As for how they persecuted the church in Smyrna, they took the lead in arresting and killing Christians in joining hands with the Roman Empire.

○ Therefore, in conclusion, as I mentioned in detail in <Bible Matrix ⑦_5> and <Bible Matrix ⑦_18>, the synagogue of Satan means the Imperial Roman Empire (BC 27~AD 394), which was the fourth Empire among the seven heads (Empires or Kingdoms) of antichrists as written in the chapter 17 of <Revelation>, and which was the last one among the four empires as written in the chapter 2 and 7 of <Daniel>. And also it means the severe suppression and persecution of Christianity by the Roman Empire.
