Science and Engineering for the Public Good
Some scientists and engineers have worked themselves to solve social problems and help people in need. Before their technologies were introduced, many social problems had been overlooked by society. Engineers developed useful technologies, and these inventions helped people themselves overcome difficulties in their daily lives. For example, technologies for people with disabilities had been developed to make their lives safer and more convenient. Scientists also tried to protect the environment by creating technologies that could help people themselves reduce pollution. By the time these new technologies became widely used, many important solutions had been discovered through scientific research. These examples show that science and engineering can be used not only for personal achievement but also for the public good. I think scientists and engineers should remind themselves that their work can have a great influence on society. If I work in an engineering or scientific field in the future, I want to develop technology that helps people and contributes to society.
