<오늘의 결단>
Today's Devotional Column // Yesan Sujeong Church // Title: Surrendering Myself Completely to the Lord
<Today's Scripture | Matthew 8:13 (NIV)>
“Then Jesus said to the centurion, ‘Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.’ And his servant was healed at that moment.”
<Related Scripture | 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)>
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
<Today's Devotional Reflection : Surrendering Myself Completely to the Lord >
Oswald Chambers writes that the one thing God wants from us is unconditional surrender. This means laying down our own thoughts, stubbornness, and desires before God, trusting Him completely, and placing our lives in His hands. We often pray to God while still insisting on our own plans and preferred outcomes. We say we trust Him, yet become anxious when things do not go our way. At times, we place our own judgment above His will.
The centurion in Matthew 8 was different. He believed that Jesus could heal his servant simply by speaking a word. He did not insist that Jesus come to his home or demand visible proof of a miracle. Instead, he trusted in the authority of Jesus and placed the life of his beloved servant in His hands. Jesus saw his faith and said, “Let it be done just as you believed it would.” At that very moment, the servant was healed. The centurion's faith was not confidence in his own ability but trust in the authority and word of Jesus.
To surrender ourselves completely to the Lord means more than asking Him to solve our problems. It means moving beyond relying on God merely to obtain what we want and learning to trust His goodness even when the outcome differs from our expectations. It means laying down our stubbornness, selfish desires, prejudices, and self-centered attitudes before Him. This is what unconditional surrender looks like.
Second Corinthians 5:17 declares that anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. Becoming a new creation in Christ is not simply a matter of beginning a religious life or changing our outward behavior. It means moving from a life centered on ourselves to a life centered on Jesus, who died and rose again for us. It means moving from pursuing our own will to living according to God's will.
Today, we need to ask ourselves some important questions. Do I truly trust God? Or do I respond in faith only when He works according to my wishes? Can I continue to trust Him when He changes my plans or leads me along a path I cannot understand?
Dear brothers and sisters, surrendering ourselves completely to God does not mean losing ourselves. Rather, it is the way to discover our true identity in the God who created us and is the rightful Lord of our lives. Today, lay down your own thoughts and stubbornness, and trust in the word of the Lord. As you entrust your life fully to Him, the Holy Spirit will transform your old self and shape you into a new creation who lives according to God's will.
<Today's Commitment>
Lord, rather than insisting that things happen according to my wishes, I will trust Your will and surrender my life completely into Your hands.
