Rapid growth of cities has a positive influence on society.
Over the past few decades, cities have
emerged in different sizes and characteristics in our world. So, it has been argued whether rapid
development of cities has a positive influence on society. Some
might argue that rapid growth of cities has
various negative effects on society such as increasing
the rate of pollution or crime, while others might disagree with this. However, the positive effects of swift
growth of cities outweigh the negative ones. Actually, I have a couple
of reasons to state my opinion and will explain and develop them in the next
following paragraphs.
First and
foremost, rapid growth of urban areas affects society positively because it
provides people with a better economy with more employment. As cities grow, businesses become developed in quantity, quality
and diversity. This means that more people will become employed, and the
jobless will be reduced. Although
some people might say that the quick growth of cities will result in citizen’s
health problems due to the cities’ increased rate of pollution, there is a
proven paradox about cities generally having declined rate of pollution after
rapid development. To give an example of
this, my teacher showed the class a graph of what happens to society after development of cities. She said we might
expect the pollution to worsen because of very complex structures of cities not
only increase the number of cars used, but also make
traffic congestions. However, she told us that once a city reaches a
certain level of development, it meets the reduction of cars. The graph she
showed us was about many cities that had a reduction of the number of cars as
they developed. My teacher explained the cause of the reduction was because
developed cities usually have developed public transportations. As the gap
between building and building is shortened in length, it is harder to get
around with cars. So, people generally begin to walk and use subways once the
city gets larger and more populated. We might think that the health problems of
the citizens would worsen as the city gets bigger and more crowded, but it’s
the other way around. As more cities become capable of employing more workers,
the number of busy workers who need to move from building to building
increases, which is why public transportation becomes more developed. This phenomenon is
the positive influence that rapid growth of cities has on society
Moreover,
rapid growth of cities gives a positive influence on society because it
generally means that education for children gets to be more developed. In comparison with suburban areas, cities have better educational
systems because there are more people with higher expectations and competitions. Although some people might
say that quickly enlarged cities have higher rates of crime because of
dangerous alleys, isolated buildings and more people with anxiety, larger
cities also have more alerted police protection for such danger. To give a second-handed example of this, I was
born in the country side and lived with my mom and my grandparents. My father
lived in the city because of his job. My elementary school was the only school
in town, and I didn’t have a lot of classmates. However, as the city my father
was in grew in size, my father wanted me and my mother to move into the city and live with him because he thought it
would be best for my education. I ended up attending the rest of my school
years in the city and found that there was a big difference between the urban
and the suburban area. In the city where I lived, schools had more diverse
students with high expectations of better education. There were also many
after-school centers or academies where we could review what we learned at
school. Although there were more crimes in the city than the country side, the
city was packed with not only police officers
and police cars but also CCTVs that watch all the dangerous alleys. Also, I
learned that cities usually develop by rebuilding isolated and dangerous
buildings and neighborhoods to reduce crime scenes and house
more people. By this, I learned that
the rapid growth of cities has positive
influence not only on the society’s education but also their safety.
