(Today's Devotional Column) : Living with God's Perspective
We often evaluate our lives according to the circumstances we see before us. When things go well, we believe God is with us. But when difficulties come, we may begin to wonder whether God has forgotten us. The same is true of those who serve God. We rejoice when our ministry bears fruit, but we may become discouraged when the results fall short of our expectations. Yet God's perspective is different from ours.
Oswald Chambers emphasizes that the perspective required of God's servants is not merely to come as close to the highest standard as possible, but to maintain the highest perspective—the perspective of God Himself. This does not mean that we must perform every task perfectly. It means that we must live not with our own abilities and achievements at the center, but with God's will and glory at the center of our lives.
In Psalm 23:1, David declares, “The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” David is not saying that he will never experience hardship. Rather, he is confessing his confidence that God, his Shepherd, will guide and care for him. When our perspective is fixed on our circumstances, we see only our problems and limitations. But when we look through God's perspective, we begin to recognize the God who is at work even in the midst of our difficulties.
Oswald Chambers connects this truth with 2 Corinthians 2:14, which reminds us that God leads us in Christ's triumph and spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ through us. Therefore, those who serve God should ask themselves not merely how much they have accomplished, but how clearly Christ is being revealed through their lives.
Dear brothers and sisters, where is your focus today? Is it on the recognition of others and the results of your ministry, or on God, who faithfully leads you? God calls us to maintain His perspective every day. We are to trust Him not only when things go well, but also when we face difficulties. Even when the results are not what we hoped for, we must remain faithful in the place where He has called us to serve.
Today, fix your eyes on the Lord, your Shepherd. Look beyond your weaknesses to His abundant grace, and beyond your limitations to His power. Instead of living merely to accomplish your own plans, seek to become a person through whom God's will is fulfilled.
Those who maintain God's perspective are not controlled by their circumstances; they live to reveal Christ in every situation.
