1. General Information
○ According to the data that KOTRA Jakarta has, SamYang products are under HS Code 8483.40. The growth between Indonesia’s export and import numbers has very significant numbers.
○ Indonesia import number is decreasing significantly. In 2011 Indonesia export number was 381.4 million USD and although it increased around 16 percent to 442.7 million USD in 2012, in 2013 the import value decreased by 29 percent at 2.13 million USD. The top ten importer countries are Japan, China, Singapore, Germany, Thailand, United States, Sweden, Italy, Taiwan and Malaysia with their export numbers in 2013 respectively 151.4, 35.1, 31.2, 20.1, 15.4, 14.4, 5.5, 5.4, 4.3 and 4.3 million USD. South Korea was the eleventh with export number 5.7 million USD in 2012 and it decreased to 4.2 million USD in 2013. The current trend for import was all numbers were decreasing slightly from 2011 to 2013. China is the only country from top ten that increase its growth significantly, followed by Netherlands in the thirteenth and India.
○ In the other hand, total growth of export number remains increase every year. In 2011 Indonesia export of the item valued at 62.5 million USD and it increased 21.6 percent as in 2012 the import value was 76.1 million USD. In 2013 the import increased again 43.7 percent at 109.3 million USD. Top ten exporter countries in 2013 are Japan, Singapore, United States, Australia, Philippines, Belgium, South Africa, Vietnam, Thailand, and Papua New Guinea with their import numbers respectively reached 47.3, 35.0, 5.4, 3.9, 3.8, 2.9, 2.8, 2.5, 2.3 and 1.6 million USD. South Korea itself were the seventeenth with its import numbers were 0.01 million USD in 2011, 0.005 million USD in 2012, and 0.05 million USD in 2013.
○ From the data it is seen that although Indonesia export number was smaller than its import number, the trend is every year the export is increasing while the import is decreasing. However, the need of the items is still high, and so the item is still marketable in Indonesia.
○ Related to customer’s preference, actually related to industrial items Korean brand is not the first choice. Indonesian people tend to choose item from Europe, US, and Japan. They said it is about quality. However according to the distributor, there are also customers who choose item from China or Taiwan, usually this segment prefers to have cheap price more than quality. Korean item itself usually is the middle.
○ Brands that are distributed in Indonesia are Falk, Flender, SangYong, EW, CMG, Motovario, Rossi Motoriduttori,, Omega Motori, Quantum, Bonfiglioli Ridottori, Teco, Elektrim, Nord Drive System, Li-Ming, Moller, Electra, Relience, Elecon, TB Wood, Chenta, Tsubaki, etc. However the most common brands in Indonesia are Fenner, Dodge, Siemens, Flender, Sumitomo, and Rexnord.
