Director's cut vs Premium edition FAQ
Hello. This is the director's cut Blu-ray/DVD promotion team of drama "It's Okay To Not Be Okay". We've organized answers to common questions asked about the Blu-ray/DVD drive. If you have any other questions, please use the question board(질문 게시판).
1. Director's cut vs Premium edition
The physical edition of the drama will be sold in 3 editions: Director's cut edition, Premium edition, General edition. The promotion team is currently pushing for the director's cut, and the contents of the 3 types of editions are as follows.
Director's cut edition:
In general, additional videos such as commentary, making, NG, interview, and photobook composed of unreleased stills are included. The episodes will go through re-editing which means that episodes found in the CD will include the addition of the deleted scene and different compositions of scenes, etc.
Premium edition:
DOES NOT include RE-EDITED episodes Episodes in the CD will be the broadcasted version, i.e. episodes found on Netflix instead. Else the other additional videos (commentary, making, NG, interview), privileges included are the same as the director's cut edition.
General edition:
Broadcasted version of drama episodes [i.e episodes found on Netflix] + merchandises from broadcasting station [tvN in this case]. DOES NOT include additional videos included in the Director's cut and Premium edition.
2. Demand survey
Producing CDs requires a significant number of real buyers because of disk configuration cost, re-editing, and additional privileges. Thus, we recruit people who are willing to buy, and then we look at the quantity of CDs people want to buy.
As this is called the "demand survey", the more cafe members and demanded quantity, the smoother the process of pushing for the CD production, which means that more promotions and publicity is needed.
3. Price of Blu-ray/DVD
Blu-ray is usually priced between 250,000 won and 280,000 won.
DVD is priced around the range of 100,000+ won.
4. Blu-ray/DVD creation process
In the process of promoting/pushing for the Director's cut, the main considerations are the demanded quantity and number of cafe members. Once these two requirements have been met, the manufacturer and distributor will discuss the creation of Blu-ray/DVD before making the decision to start the pre-payment. If the quantity of purchase achieved is greater than the minimum quantity of purchases required during the pre-payment period, the production will be confirmed and the actual production begins.
The production process takes up to 6 months to a maximum of 1 year.
The cafe will need a lot of promotion and publicity to recruit more members so as to have a higher chance of producing the director's version of Blu-ray/DVD.
5. Difference between Blu-ray/DVD
screen resolution + video quality:
720 x 480, 480p (DVD) vs 1920 x 1080, 1080p (Blu-ray)
6. Blu-ray/DVD Playback Environment
Blu-ray playback is typically categorized in two ways:
http://1.TV or Projector + Blu-ray Player
2.PC + Blu-ray ODD+ Private Playback Program
If you play the disc by the 1st method, you can watch the video in a high-definition and high-quality playback environment. If you play it by the 2nd method, you have to extract files and encode files, and you need a dedicated playback program such as Power DVD. Dedicated playback programs are bundled when you purchase ODD (optical disc drive).
Playback may not be possible if your PC specifications are low.
For DVD, you can play it in either two of the above, or on a regular computer's CD/DVD Rom drive. Unlike Blu-ray, you don't need a dedicated program to play on your PC.
Also, Blu-ray and DVD have local codes, so the player is also fixed. The CD and player's local codes must be the same for playback.
첫댓글 Will there be English subtitles for foreign fans?
That's the part I'm not sure of. Sorry.
@임시총대 Will they let us know if it does contain an English subtitle option before we purchase it? Thank you.
@ksgssw Yes, we will.
@사괜블딥부총대 Thank you! Hopefully they will because N*tflix already has the subtitles for it and they seem like very good translations . Fingers crossed!

Generally, is the Director's Cut with the re-edited scenes and different compositions of scenes, etc. better than the original episodes that was broadcast? How different is it? Is this version preferred by fans? Thank you.
We can't say that the Director's cut is better than the original ones. The overall storyline will be the same, but fans would like to see more of the scenes that cut out from the broadcast episodes. That's why we are trying to convince them to make the Director's cut Blu-ray or DVD.
@사괜블딥부총대 Oh so the scenes/episodes will be longer? That would be amazing! To be able to see more details and possibly explanations with longer scenes. The cinematography is already breathtaking as it is, it would be great to see more. It seems like the Director's cut is the best choice then. Thank you for the response!
