Product Description
An inspirational story of an extraordinary mother whose love for her
children drove her to accomplish the seemingly impossible -- becoming a
self-made millionaire despite her illiteracy and hardships. An
incredible, true story of love, courage, and perseverance.
The story begins with the author hearing that her mother and her step
father have been injured in a fire. Not knowing whether her parents will
be alive or dead by the time she arrives at the hospital, she
recollects her mother's heartfelt life. The author's mother faces
tragedies, of which a single one could break the spirit of many people.
... more »The
story begins, with her mother's pre-arranged Korean marriage to a drug
addict and wife beater.
After
fleeing an abusive, arranged marriage, she falls in love with an American
soldier stationed in Korea. Moon married an American soldier
and immigrated to the United States from Korea in the 1950s. Her secure
happy life ended abruptly when her husband did not return from Vietnam. Her happiness is short-lived when she finds herself having to care
for three small children. With no education, illiterate, no family in
the U.S., little money, no close friends, the author's mother becomes a
self-made millionaire. But her journey was not easy. She buried two
children, dealt with another child's drug addiction, and faced life
threatening illnesses. So began her incredible
journey toward caring for and building a future for her children. Faced
with every tragedy known to mankind, and armed with nothing but sheer
will power, Moon discovered a knack for negotiating lucrative real
estate business deals. Nevertheless, two simple words underscore her
perspective on life, "Thank you."Although Moon’s new life brought many
hardships, working for days without sleep, dealing with the sorrow of
losing two children tragically, struggling with illiteracy, to name a
few, Moon was forever grateful for every hardship she experienced and
overcame. Moon wanted to share her life story with others. To give
hope to those who are at their darkest hour. To inspire those who want
to achieve more in life. To help people stop feeling sorry for
themselves. By sharing herself with others, she hoped that they would
appreciate what they have – no matter how little or small – and use it
to their fullest potential. Most, if not all, readers will find they
have much, much more to start with compared to Moon. So you’ll be left
with no excuses for fulfilling your dreams and armed with the motivation
to do so. She achieved the impossible, so can you!

Book Reviews:
1) How could one person -- a delicate-looking woman -- have withstood and
survived (nay, thrived) after having experienced abuse, rejection,
abandonment, poverty, hardships, tragedy, and yet still preached
gratitude? Whenever I'd feel sorry for myself for any reason, I'd
remember Mama Moon's words reminding her daughter (the author) that she
was lucky to be:
...living in "this wonderful country," the United States.
...able to receive an education.
...able to read and write.
...have two arms and two legs.
...able to eat anything she wanted, whenever she wanted.
...able to work hard and become whatever she chose to be.
Mama Moon was an inspiration to those who knew her and now to those
(like me) who know of her courage and resilience through her daughter's
book. Thank you, Susan, for generously and bravely sharing your mother's
story.
2) This was an amazing story about a truly amazing woman. It is very well
written. Mama Moon feels so real. I love that the story doesn't gloss
over the bad or make the good shine too brightly. It's simply the story
of a life well lived. Moon's strenth and determination are beyond
anything I have ever read or heard of before. I read the book in two
nights, I just couldn't put it down. It's certian to inspire anyone who
thinks life has handed them too much tragedy.
