올해 영국에서 열린 G1 경주 에서 3승을 올린 라몬티(Ramonti (UAE) 가 우승을 차지했다.

라몬티는 아랍에미리트 왕족들의 경주마 전용 관리소인 '고돌핀(Godolphin)' 소속 마필이다.
'고돌핀'은 아랍에미리트 통치자인 무하마드 빈 라시드 알 막툼 총리가 주축이 되어 세웠다.
영국 유학 시절 경마에 매료된 알 막툼 총리는 말을 타고 사막을 누비던 유목민족의 후예라는 긍지를 갖고 투자를 시작했다.
수백억 원짜리 말들을 숱하게 거느린 고돌핀은 곧바로 세계 경마의 강자로 떠올랐다.
고돌핀은 1994년 이후 올해까지 G1 대회에서 72 마리의 말로 137승을 거두었다.

Racing Incident Report

ROYAL PRINCE bounded in the air at the start. Making the turn after the 1800 Metres, ROYAL PRINCE got its head up, attempted to run off and shifted wider on the track. In the early and middle stages, RAMONTI proved difficult to settle. Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, the inquiry sign was semaphored as the Stewards believed an incident occurred near the 300 Metres which cast doubt on whether RAMONTI ought be declared the winner of the race. M Kinane, the rider of VIVA PATACA, second placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against RAMONTI (L Dettori) being declared the winner alleging interference after the 300 Metres. The evidence disclosed that after the 300 Metres VIVA PATACA was steadied and shifted to the outside of RAMONTI which shifted in when not properly clear. As the Stewards did not consider, bearing in mind the half length margin between the horses at the end of the race, that had the interference to VIVA PATACA not occurred that horse would have finished in front of RAMONTI, the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. At a subsequent inquiry, L Dettori was advised to exercise care. VENGEANCE OF RAIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VENGEANCE OF RAIN after the race did not show any significant findings. RAMONTI and VIVA PATACA were sent for sampling.

Ramonti rounded off a fantastic season with his fourth Group One success of the year in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup.

The new Godolphin standard bearer got the better of Viva Pataca by half a length but had to survive a stewards' inquiry after which the positions remained unaltered.

After sedately run sectionals, Ramonti got first run on Viva Pataca at the top of the home straight and never looked like relinquishing a break established with a furlong to race. Vengeance Of Rain disappointed, finishing sixth of the seven runners.

True bravery has characterised Ramonti's four wins this season. Before this HK$20m victory, he also won the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and the QEII at Ascot on varied ground conditions.

Frankie Dettori paid tribute to the five-year-old saying: "He's one of the bravest horses I've ever ridden. It was his first time over ten furlongs and he was a bit keen because of the slow pace, but when I set him alight I knew it would take a very good one to get past him. He's one of the best. To win four Group Ones in a season is a fantastic effort. He stays in training and there's a lot to look forward to."

"There are so many more options open to him now he gets a mile and a quarter. All credit to Saeed [Bin Suroor, trainer], because this was the right track to come to test him at this trip," added Godolphin's racing manager, Simon Crisford.

This was Godolphin's second win in the Cup after Fantastic Light in 2000 when Dettori also rode. The Italian also won the race on Falbrav in 2003.
